I bought Bento 3 family pack for Mac (as I have 2 computers), as well as for iPhone and iPad, so that I could sync data between my computers and other devices. About £80.
It turns out that you can only sync with one device, iPhone OR iPad, not both, they didn't tell me that at any point, I had to discover this for myself.
The syncing does not happen automatically (as it does over iCloud with iCal, Adress book etc, as well as the brilliant Omnifocus) despite Filemaker apparently being owned by Apple, you have to do it manually over a network.
So if you make a change or add any data on a device, you then have to manually sync each device over a wifi network (but not more than one iPhone OR iPad).
When OS Lion came out Bento 3 stopped working, so rather than offer a free upgrade, Filemaker chose to charge the FULL PRICE to Bento 3 owners to 'upgrade' to Bento 4 in order that they may be able to use this VERY LIMITED SOFTWARE on their computers again.
It is very hard to get through to Filemaker on the phone, you just get diverted to a friendly Spaniard working remotely for Filemaker, who despite sympathising with your predicament cannot offer any help at all.
Filemaker should be ashamed of themselves. This very basic software fails to sync automatically, and when Apple release their new operating system they see this as an opportunity to rip you off and charge the full price for the new version.
Avoid this at all costs, unless you are looking for a lot more exasperation and frustration in your life.
