I looked for DVDs with Benny Hill shows some years ago, but found only a few, randomly assembled. And mostly sone1 recordings. Then I happened to look again some weeks ago, and found the whole shebang he did for Thames Television had been published in the meantime. Nicely sequenced. O' Joy.

The first DVD in the series is the 1970 season. I wondered what had become of his 1969 material - untill i got the 1974 DVD in hand:

The 1974 DVD also contains the two TV shows he did for Thames in 1969! These DVDs have really gotten far too little publicity (but I'm working on it.)

Benny Hill is certainly worth this collection - and more. He was the real king of comedy. And his jokes as amusing today as they were then. One more thing: He wasn't only a keen observer and interpreter of character, he had a good heart. His shows are the kind that makes you laugh and smile - a good smile. He's never truely malicious. Quite opposite: There's a spirit of liberating frankness about all he does. A great pity that such a generous and kind soul passed away so much too early. I really miss that guy on telly.
