I have seen this available in brown and navy (I also have the suspicion it is available in a plum shade too), however, I own the black and it is a lovely dark properly black colour. It may sound strange but the colour is one of my favourite things about this, in the past I have tried other mascaras that are meant to be black but they don't quite produce the true dark black colour that I am looking for. This mascara does.
The mascara is quite thick in texture but applies easily, without clumping my eye lashes together. The brush is relatively unfussy and is quite large for a mascara brush which makes it easier to get all your lashes covered in just a couple of sweeps. A little simple and effective tip that I learnt for the girls at the Benefit counter is that if you are after super sexy big lashes coat the upper sides and lower sides of both the top and bottom lashes. Simple but it works.
You can get a couple of different looks from using this same mascara but in slightly different ways. I apply one brief coat of this for everyday wear, but if I am going out at night I layer it up, a couple of coats later and some heavy eye shadow you can create the perfect smouldering eye look. Personally, I find that this mascara works really well with the same shade of black eyeliner that is also available.
The packaging of this mascara is rather tame in comparison to some of their other products. It is a mainly black tube with pink writing, I think it is designed to look a little rock chicky. The packaging (as with most of the Benefit range gives the impression that this is aimed at the slightly younger generation. I think that if I had any complaint with Benefit it would be with this, I have bought my mum some of their products and she loves them now but she probably wouldn't have thought to purchase them without my recommendation. But at the same time I do love how they look.
