5.0 out of 5 stars great performances and variety of musical styles 22 May 2013

I am fairly new to Warren's catalog and was interested/intrigued by the variety of other artists who performed at the benefit. I have always liked the Allman Brothers and his led me to check out Warren's own music. I'm very pleased to have this album (2 cd) and I have purchased others by Warren as a result. Extended Blues and rock with Warren's excellent solos and various other instruments to the fore including some great sax and keyboards. But the clincher for me on this set was the presence of John Hiatt and THE Goners (with the amazing Sonny Landreth) on 3 of John's excellent songs. They're all on great form and the sound is good (very minor criticism is that the kick of the bass that must have been there at the performance is a little lacking in the recording - but then it is live). I have played this several times since it arrived and it's my current choice when driving. So I think I like it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music and Great sound quality 13 Jan 2012
By jam2009 - Published on Amazon.com
As I acquire more and more of Warren's music output I'm continually blown away with his greatness. There are simply only a few people in the music industry that can hold a candle to this man's ability and diversity in music. He's a master at creating his own music, doing covers that are tasteful, creative and at the same time respectful of the original. It always amazes me the different music genres he seems to plug into together that seem to fit in so well. This is also true of his Mt Jam weekend at Hunter mt., New York where you always walk away with the feeling that the diverse set of bands seem to have a common thread.
This new collection of 2 CDs fit perfectly into this mindset. Starting out with a beautiful acoustic Warren playing Carolina in my mind, then into a couple of Bluegrass numbers with and without Warren by local talent Sons of Ralph, then into some killer Blues with Robert Randolf and the Family Band. Closing out the first CD is Moe at it's fine form with 2 spacy Jam tunes.
CD 2 begins with a powerful 3 songs from John Hiatt that is powerful and much more aligned with a Jam mentality than his studio stuff that sometimes leans toward country rock. Bob Wier's 3 tunes are well down with the highlight being a very different Shakedown Street with an extented Jam in the middle that was dynamic. Warren and the Mule cap of the entire collection with 3 tasteful extended versions of 2 Mule classics and finishing with the Mule's cover of Skynerd's Simple Man.
If you are fan of great musicianship, great jams and top quality recording of this type of music, you can't go wrong here. I've already ordered volumes 2 and 3 after getting this collection and will review them after enough listens.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great cd 10 Jan 2012

what a surprise i got listening to this cd. being a dead fan, i bought this for the weir tunes. i also am a big warren fan so i knew what i was getting there.but when i put the first disc in i was blown away right on the first track, warren playes carolina in my mind with don lewis and it is a great acoustic number. followed up by, sons of ralph, which just cooks !!this band is HOT!! if you like carolina style music you are gonna love this: nice blend of a jazz/bluegrass sound.i love that warren is so cool about the local music scene, he brings in these guys who people know in the area, but are such a nice surprise to us, in the rest of the country. the jerry joseph tunes are good, lots of passion, bluesy, rockin. great widespread panic cover song he has done in the past with w.p. i like it alot...then moe comes on and does a super, darkstar, just the right kind of jam style tune to mix this disk up.,,,,,,warren pitches in also......just a great disk......disk 2 john hiatt is alittle predictable: about what i would expect from him.i have seen him before and thought this was similar to his previous shows..the bob weir stuff is ok ... the rest of the disk is solid: some good warren/ gov. mule hard rockin tunes.....i really like simple man as a closer with skynyrd drummer artymus pyle sitting in...all and all a great show and event warren does yearly for a good cause.

1.0 out of 5 stars bad music 29 Aug 2012

There are no good songs on this cd. I should have researched it better. I assumed it would be good with Warren's name on it. I am going to return it and ask them to give it to someone who would enjoy it. Never assume anything.
