Beneath the Skin is a hot steamy read with passion and true sense of protection from the outset. This is Gibson de la Vega's story and when he is shot by unknown shifters and is rescued by the mysterious Mia Porter, his world is turned upside down and will do anything to protect what is his.

This story is about family betrayal and family feuds. Whilst battling with their emotions for each other, Gibson and Mia find themselves target practice for family vengeance and it is only their love and trust for each other, as well as their expert skills that will help protect themselves, their families and the Jamboree.

Beneath the Skin has moved away from the magical theme that was in the first two books to focus on the de la Vega Jamboree and the threats that are from within. This is a really fun enjoyable book to read and I would say is my favourites so far. I really liked Gibson as a character, he is a protector as well as a truly passionate man/cat and I love how he treats and cares for Mia from the outset. There is a lot of banter in the book between the brothers which is always fun to see and I love how with each book, the bonds within the Jamboree and the National wolves gets stronger.

Ms. Dane brings in the much loved characters from the Cascadia Wolves series into this book and connects them with the de la Vega Jamboree that it's always good to get a catch up on what is happening in with them.

This is a really good shifter series that I think is getting better with each book. Looking forward to reading the fourth instalment.

Book three in this series and it's good Cade and grace fom the cassendra wolfs series pop up too in this book, along with max and kendra from book two and jack, Galen and renee from book one, this is Gibson and mias story and it's full of hot sex, action and a big hit of romance, Lauren Dane always delivers a good book that once you start you want to keep reading and this is no different
Gibson is a strong alpha male and Mia is a perfect match but what I liked was her softer side great characters who are fun to read

Heeeeellloooooooooo sexy! Gibson De La Vega is the Bringer of the De La Vega jamboree. Basically he is in charge of justice and protecting his cats. When is faced with a rogue group of cats that entered the territory without permission and he sends them packing, he is attacked and shot at with silver bullets.
Mia Porter just happens to be around when he gets shot and she feels compelled to help him and save his life. Even though she didn't know who he was. Of course that doesn't make things easier once she finds out. The Porter and De La Vega family have old beef with each other. They are NOT friends.
Now Mia's life is also in danger for helping him and he feels an overpowering need to protect her. She tough, ex military, and very much a kick ass heroine. She was attacked by shifter-hater group and is still recovering from her injuries, and may not ever completely heal, but she is still pushing through. When confronted with yet another group after her, no matter that it's because of a De La Vega, she wants to help.

Gibson is deliciously protective, sexy as sin, with his dreadlocks, nipple rings, tats, and oh my! Wicked! He wasn't looking to imprint but their relationship just happened so naturally that it was the only thing that made sense. No matter that their families kind of hated each other. No matter that she is not a female he can leave home away from danger. He respects her and lets her do her job. And she in turn does that same for him.
Cade from Cascadia has a little cameo appearance in this book which was nice. Renee, Jack and Galen are also an important part of this book, since Gibson is very involved with his family. As far as conflict goes, there wasn't a whole lot of action, but the story was still interesting with an unexpected twist at the end. Very much an enjoyable and sexy read.

LOVED this book. I have read a lot of not very well written erotica this week but this woman is an erotica wizard with the genre. If you want to learn how to write great erotic scenes and relationships, sit at her feet. Seriously, the great thing about shifters (aside from the rapid healing and need for a great many calories) is that they have a highly felt animal nature which lets them be less inhibited about sex, not about sharing their mate, but just about sex. And Ms. Dane is not at all inhibited about writing truly hot, passionate sex.

That the relationship here is as respectful, and that Gibson and Mia are so adult and firm in their articulation of wants and needs even give Ms. Dane the freedom to use words I would normally not enjoy in erotic passages. She also does a good job with contemporary vernacular, at least to my not "down with it" self (I still say "groovy"). At the same time there is a formal language associated with pack business that she uses consistently.

It is also great to see Mia as so strong, and tough and yet wanting a strong man acting protectively. People are complex and have quirks like this which makes Ms. Danes characters more real.

This is the third in the series, but I didn't feel the back story was lacking, nor that she did a "previously in the de La Vega Cats,...). While living within the series structure the story stood well on its own.

This is a hot and romantic story that will possibly make you hot and bothered!

Beneath the Skin-A Joyfully Recommended Title! 6 Jun. 2012

Gibson de La Vega is the Bringer for his jamboree and it's a responsibility he takes very seriously. He is the one who makes sure that their laws are followed and he hands out justice when those laws are broken. After a meeting with members of another jamboree where Gibson handed out a fair ruling for their misbehavior, he finds himself shot and with silver to make it worse.

Mia Porter is a cat in the de La Vega jamboree but her family does very little with it due to bitterness and bad relations between the Porter's and the de La Vegas. Of course, when Mia found the injured Gibson she knew he was a cat and helped him, it only came out later who he was and then he found out who she was. Talk about an awkward moment.

Even with that painful meeting, awareness surrounded both Mia and Gibson. With their families past, you would think it would go no farther but Mia and Gibson soon find out that the past between their families isn't nearly enough to keep them apart. Finding the cats that hurt him becomes Gibson's primary goal, especially when they go after Mia too. Shooting Gibson just makes him pissed off; shooting Mia makes Gibson deadly serious about finding and stopping those cats. As the search goes on, Gibson and Mia discover that the cause of this attack on the de La Vega's jamboree might be closer than anyone expected. Several past incidents come full circle by the time Gibson and Mia have a chance to see if their passion is the forever kind.

A shot of silver brings together two hearts that not even past hurts can keep apart in Beneath the Skin. Mia and Gibson have to not only defeat a serious challenge to their jamboree but also the hurtful past between their families before they can explore their future together. Of course, they do it as only the Bringer and his ex-military mate can. I fell for Gibson the first time I meet him in the previous books and just knew that when he fell it would be to a very special person. Mia, with her family past and her strong military standing, was exactly the type of woman to take on Gibson and to trust with his heart. When I first learned of their families past, I thought - Oh no, this is bad, but I didn't account for both Mia and Gibson being their own people. Watching as they fell in love while bringing Mia's family back into the jamboree and then dealing with the unexpected challenge to Gibson and the jamboree had me holding my breath while smiling at how well they got along. I loved how Mia stood up to and for Gibson and how Gibson both supported and protected Mia.

If you can't tell by now, I absolutely loved everything about Gibson and Mia's story in Beneath the Skin. It was heartwarming, humorous and suspenseful in alternating turns and I just did not want to put it down. It's a book that I already want to read again- along with the others in the de La Vega series. I whole heartedly Joyfully Recommend Beneath the Skin as one that deserves a spot in your shapeshifter library. It is already a book that will never leave my e-reader so I always have it on hand.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved Gibson and Mia.

Thank you for a heroine that is strong and flawed. I loved that she was not perfectly fit, and that she let a guy be a guy. It seems like lately a lot of books have gone the way of totally emasculating the guy. I love Lauren Dane because she has strong men and they respect their women, and the women are really awesome without having to be "perfect".

This was a great fast paced read. I liked the historical tie in information about the jamboree. I do not want to give out any spoilers. If you are new to this series, I would start with book 1Trinity. If you read this, you would want to go back and start at the beginning, and this story would give you spoilers for book 1 & 2.

The reason I liked this book so much was because Gibson really respected Mia, and she was tough and capable but still respected Gibson back. She was not always trying to prove herself. I just loved the relationship that developed.

If you like shifter stories and are new to Lauren Dane - I recommend starting all the way back to the Cascadia wolves (my favs) Enforcer (Cascadia Wolves) and my most favorite and five star Tri Mates (Cascadia Wolves).

I did not want to give any spoilers, but this book has lots of action a little bit of a mystery as to who is behind everything for the first 65 percent of the book, and great characters

I thought that Max and Kendra were the best of the series I of course count the Cascadia wolves even though it is stand alone. I have re read max and kendra story several times now and fell in love with Gibson while going thru their story. Now that he has his own warrior woman it is perfect. I love how Mia is such a warrior and still able to be girly (with heels) at the same time. This is a must read and will be in my kindle forever.
I hope there will be a another book
