On her 14th birthday, Christy is given a cross necklace by her older sister Vanessa and as a treat is allowed to drive Vanessa's car. A terrible accident occurs and Vanessa is terribly burnt after being trapped in the car. She survives for a few weeks then dies. At her funural, Christy hears noises coming from within the coffin, and undergoes a breakdown. Six years later, Christy returns to her family home, after spending the time away recovering from a personality disorder, and attempting to lead a normal life. However, she is determined to get to the bottom of her sisters death, and is convinced secrets are being kept from her. What Christy uncovers is a terrible web of deceit and comes under suspicion herself when people close to her start to die.
I'm not sure that this can be classed either as a horror film or a thriller. Its probably both, crossing the borders of both genres. What I can say with complete certainty is that this is an excellent little film, that builds up considerable tension as dark secrets are uncovered, and there is a mounting feeling of unease as Christy delves deeper into her families past. Whether you will enjoy or despair of the ending will probably depend on what expectations you have of the film, but I thought it tied up the story very well. The acting performances are all excellent, especially Nora Zehetner as the troubled Christy, and there is a particularly eerie musical score that benefits the film no end.
Please ignore the negative reviews as this is a very fine film. 4 out of 5
