I am giving the book 5 stars because I am sure the information contained in it is excellent however it wasn't what I was expecting and had I known its format would not have bought it as an introduction to the subject - which is what I was looking for.

This book is a compendium of 35 articles, written by craftsmen, from Fine Woodworking magazine between 1975 and 1984 - each article covers a particular project so there is a wide variety and one may well find what one is looking for but feels to me a bit 'pot luck'. However there is an index so it is possible to find information on the topic of interest without reading every article on the off chance of finding what you are looking for.

I bought this book to help me write my dissertation at university. My tutor had a copy of it and I had come across it in the library. I knew that it was a book worth having.

In the book it has many areas of bending from building your molds and forms to the best way in steaming your wood. This may be a bit heavy for beginners, but don't just go of what it says in the book. Bending is all about what you find out and what works for you.

If your interested in bending wood this has to be top of your list.

The book is an interesting read but does not go into enough detail on how to do steam bending but does give a lot of examples of what can be done with steam bent wood. Not a reference book.
