Don't let the 4 starts fool you. This monitor should have 5+ stars. It is EXCELLENT.

So, what lets it down?

1. The lack of a height adjustment facility.
2. Motion blur - low refresh rate.

I have always worked with MAC as much as has been possible. It is lovely to sit down and work in front of something beautiful. When I sit in front of a PC I become depressed with it's corporate narrow mindedness evolved by the `suits'. However, I needed a monitor for my two new laptops. One a top of the range MacBook Pro and the other a bespoke `extreme machine' by Workstation Specialists - a PC. I needed a monitor for running software such as REVIT, 3-D MAX, AUTOCAD, and PhotoShop & Illustrator. BTW - PhotoShop users will love this monitor as it gives so much room at the margins for 'floating palettes'.

I would like to purchase an Apple Cinema 27 inch but times are uncertain and `cash is king', so I kept to a stupidly low budget.

I read up on monitors and decided to plumb for the Benq EW2420. Then I read a review by someone with a MacBook and they gave a recommendation for the higher spec' monitor the EW2430. In fact the difference in price is only 10. I purchased the monitor through Amazon with Akobe - just wonderful service - next day delivery, etc,.

I do not read instructions, so went straight into opening the box and getting the item up and running. When I was a kid always had something left over from making my `airfix' kits that I had missed out when putting the model together. The packaging of the Benq reminded me of how I felt when I received the Apple MacBook Pro. Sublime packaging that made you feel like a wealthy King. Benq was not quite in the same league but very impressive nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best if your not gaming on it. 24 Nov 2011
Just a quick note about this monitor.

It has the best contrast ratio and black depth I have ever seen and I have compared it to my Benq 241w which was one of the best va panels you could buy a few years back.

Colors are great and the build quality is superb.

I wanted to keep this monitor but for gaming, the response time isn't fast enough. My old Benq 241w has a response time of 6ms and was a little quicker with reduced ghosting and smearing than this Benq 2430. The 2430 does have ama which does help but it introduces a black trailing effect with fast moving objects.

So if your not playing fast games like Call Of Duty then this monitor is top notch.

I really wished that I could have kept it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Monitor 9 Aug 2011
By DavidW
The quality of this monitor is brilliant. The chrome stand and surround looks very stylish and the quality of the picture is stunning. Photographs and HD video seem to pop out of the screen - pin sharp with excellent colour balance and contrast.

No adjustments from the default settings - perfect pictures straight from the box. Excellent value for money & highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality monitor 31 Oct 2011
By Pomerov
Wanted a monitor that could show dark movie scenes as well as a CRT can. Did a lot of research and bought this EW2430. This review is what made me decide to go for this one:
[...]
In particular, the comments and graphs on native contrast ratio (3000:1) and black depth (0.04) are what made me decide on this screen.
I have owned the screen for a month. I am very pleased with it but I think there is further progress to be made in display technology, particularly in terms of lowest-possible black levels.

I calibrated the screen and here are my settings:
Bright10, Contrast50, Gamma1, Sharp2, R100, G97,
B89, AMA Off

4.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor 15 Aug 2011

My main reason for buying was as an external monitor for my Macbook Pro. I wanted the USB hub and I must say it lives up to expectations. The picture is great, the hub is convenient.

The sound is good for an LCD monitor, but if you're interested in good sound then always use external speakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleased the experts! 24 Oct 2011
We needed to get an HDMI input true HD monitor for a demonstration by our suppliers from the USA and purchased the BenQ after much research. We wanted to avoid paying 1ks for a professional monitor and was not disappointed. Out of the box this monitor coped with everything we threw at it and the quality was superb. Finish was not of importance but proved a bonus as did the quick release base which makes it easy to assemble and pack away. An all round impressive monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb monitor 29 Oct 2011

Excellent monitor. Bought this to help me in my editing work, as I can comfortably have two A4 pages open side by side on this monitor. It worked straight out of the box, plug and play (W7) . Speakers are rather low volume, but doesn't bother me as I'm not using it for recreational use. It's a good looking thing as well, nice shiny black surround with a brushed aluminium panel on the bottom and a brushed aluminium stand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Benq Monitor 19 Oct 2011

This monitor is very nice. The colours seem good. Its attractively presented and does exactly what it should. Its good value for money and perfect for editing as a viewing monitor. It comes with lots of different connectors so should fit to any MAc/PC without the need to buy additional cables/connectors. The Monitor has a series of switches on the side at the back of the screen, in the same corner as the on off switch, so unless you identify these and use them correctly you will feel that your monitor isn't properly connected to your Mac/PC when in fact it is all ready to go. You just need to identify the switches and scroll through the options that come up as options on the monitor itself. I would recommend this monitor to a friend and to you.
