The BenQ CRW 4816A is a high-speed internal IDE CD-RW drive that is easy to install and operate. The drive incorporates the latest generation of BenQ's patented Seamless Link technology that ensures problem-free burning. Not only does it insure against writing errors caused by buffer overflow, it also offers important safeguard features such as Anti-Coaster, Auto-Pilot and Collision Guard. Burning is now more reliable than ever before.
The drive is also flash upgradeable. This provides an easy way to upgrade the software in your BenQ drive, not only by improving the performance of the drive but also by adding support for the latest standards and types of CD media. The BenQ CRW 4816A can write CD-Rs at 48 speed and CD-RW discs at 16 speed and read CD-ROM discs at 48 speed. It supports a variety of writing modes including disc-at-once, track-at-once, session-at-once, multisession, packet writing and raw writing.

I am very pleased with this drive. I had no problems installing it as an addition to the DVD-ROM drive I already had, despite never having taken the case off a PC before. Burns cds brilliantly with the full Nero software supplied - no coasters yet! I have also recently updated the firmware via the BenQ website with no problems. I was torn between buying this and the 52x LiteOn (they were a similar price then) but am glad I plumped for the BenQ.

not as easy at it seemed,

Was lead to believe by decription, it would be easy to install. I did not find this to be the case at all. In fact instructions were not that clear for someone like myself unfamiliar with the inards of a computer. I eventually had to get professional assistance to install the item. This said, the item now installed is very good. I use it lots.
