Product Description

Review

Anita Roddick " founder of The Body Shop I love Ben & Jerry because they are an inspiration to any business that recognizes a worldwide responsibility. They understand that decisions affect not just economics but people, too.

Product Description

Commercial success need not come at the cost of human value. Just ask Ben and Jerry, whose first ice cream shop in an abandoned Vermont gas station grew into a $160 million business. Yet Ben & Jerry continue to use the power of business to change the world. With its seemingly wacky antics, controversial social and political stands, and iconoclastic corporate policies, the company that's come to embody socially responsible business has drawn the scepticism of business analysts, the criticism of media cynics - and the amazement- and ultimately, the respect- of the business world and the people in it. As Ben and Jerry explain in DOUBLE-DIP, they haven't always known exactly what they were doing, but they've always known why they were doing it. There's a method to their madness; that method is what they call 'values-led business.' BEN & JERRY'S DOUBLE-DIP explains what values-led business is, why it's the best model for business today, and how anyone who owns, works for, invests in, or shops with a company can help make it a socially responsible business.

If this book was more condense, better edited, with a bit more charm - it would have worked! Probably better for readers in the States - as relates better to US business and readership. Average

Follow the Leader! 28 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is the 'must-have' book for those not only interested in Ben and Jerry themselves, but the way in which they've built up their company and the ideas behind their business management.

Page after page, the book gives useful insights into the best ways to create a business which is not only successful, but one which is led by it's own awareness and values.

I would definately recommend this book to all those wanting more information on this remarkable company and the story behind it, or those who simply wish to know that little bit extra about the ice-cream that everybody loves!

Great inspiration seeking book 19 Oct 2004
By Tan Suan Loke - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is one of few books that I read cover to cover, and going to read it again in the next few months to remind myself and my business that there is more than just making money in life - its about making the world a better place to live for.

Although it doesn't contain any recipe for ice-creams (wasn't looking for one), it does contain the recipe for a successful business model built on a socially responsible organization that grew into a giant franchise all over the world - from a gas station and a mere 4 grands. GREAT role model for those going into business as well as those already in business.

Great resource annex at the back, from suppliers to other valued-led business. I live in Singapore, but if I have the chance, I will want to visit Vermont when my business takes off.

Since this book was a pre-Unilever take-over publication, it did not mention about the business model changes after that.

The world is getting messy - war, poverty, madness, scandals and terror, this book injects humanity into us, it gives me comfort when I go to sleep at night knowing that there are still hope and greatness in most of us. I give it 5 stars.

Ben & Jerry's Double Dip 30 Nov 2009
By Brenda H. Bricker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I teach leadership in nonprofits to ambitious and very talented college students. Increasingly students are interested in nonprofit-business partnerships. Ben and Jerry's led the socially responsible business movement and this book is both a guide to this kind of business initiative and entertaining story telling. I recommend it for real people who may be interested in beginning their own business as well as those who appreciate values led initiatives.
