This book has changed the way I play the piano. Since I bought it over a year ago I've played through it so many times I can safely say that it is my favourite music book. The album is full of great tracks that show off the talents of that guy, what's his name?

One Angry Dwarf And 200 Solemn Faces has always been my favourite track since I got the album ages ago. It's such an impressive song to listen to, and I've learnt it from memory. In the past few weeks I've been perfecting the solo for a school concert when me and a few friends are playing that for the finale. In my experience, people are always amazed by that solo.

Brick is another of my favourites that I know really well, and is a really beautiful track on the album. It's also quite simple to play as it's in an easy key. Song For The Dumped is great, despite the crazy solo being near impossible to play. Steven's Last Night In Town is actually transcribed very well, although playing the trumpet parts at the same time as the piano is confusing as hell. Evaporated is a great track, and the most simple in the book to play.

I give this book 5 stars for many reasons. The music is transcribed perfectly from the CD, and I love all the songs, which helps.

I would recommend this book to anyone around Grade 5 who wants a challenge. The music seems quite complex, but it doesn't take long to get used to. And it sounds fantastic. Get it. Play it. Now.

Well above average 29 Dec 2010
It's a very good manuscript, kept me very busy over the xmas period. It's initially difficult to fathom as (im presuming!) most ben folds fans only want the script of the piano part (which obviously makes up 95 percent of a b.f. composition) ,but the manuscript has vocal line, piano treble and bass, guitar tabs and (inexplicably!) drum notation all in synch, which makes for initially difficult reading, but when you get used to it is a fantastic interpretation of songs which aren't exactly easy to notate.
One word of caution tho,do not expect the solo's to be note perfect on either "one angry dwarf" or "fair", It does state in the introduction that his would be impossible to notate,so expect to have to improvise a little ,but it does allow for a far greater understanding of the structure of the writing.

So yes, this book comes thoroughly recommended, and was far more fun than the lego i also got (only kidding im 36)

philip price.

The best Ben Folds book out there 25 Sep 2004
By Rich - Published on Amazon.com
This book is amazing; it has perfect transcriptions for all of of their songs, and it includes all of Ben's piano solos. I was able to learn perfectly the piano solos to 'One Angry Dwarf..' and 'Song for the Dumped.' This book also has all of the transcriptions for every other instrument in all of their songs. The only annoying thing is the publishers' notation; if the notes are tied to each other, they just use the lines for the tied notes, they don't use the head of the note (my guess is to save ink, or they just thoughtt it would be easier to read). Regardless of this small annoyance, this book will help anyone learn exactly how the song was meant to be played.

Nice book, but print is too small for the pianist 3 July 2007
By Paul G - Published on Amazon.com
You can't argue with the brilliance of Ben Folds. And I appreciate what this book is trying to do. It's much like the score to the Beatles' works-- all parts-- piano, drums, bass-- are transcribed.

My beef is that as a pianist I was much more interested in seeing the piano transcriptions. The bass and drum transcriptions add nothing to my enjoyment. But because they're on the same page, everything is printed very small and you have to turn pages frequently.

Also frustrating: The multiple codas and del signo notations. In other words, you're playing along, squinting to read, and there's a D.S., telling you to go back to the sign and then play to the first coda. Then you have to find the first coda. Then you have to find the second sign. Etc, etc.

Bottom line: I've used the book as a reference. it's helpful to understand his chord voicings and licks, but if you want to play through the piece from start to finish, this isn't the right book for you.

Difficult and Accurate 25 Jun 2006
By Daniel Halle - Published on Amazon.com
For an avid piano player, this book still provides many challenges in reading and playing. The inclusion of the guitar/bass/drum/other lines, with a separate vocal line (some books like to hide this in the piano) make for an accurate and interesting play. Many of BFF's best hits are in this book. I would recomend it to anyone who is a fan and has a good number of years of piano behind them.
