Book Description

24 Jan 2014
This collection of 30 short stories is the third to be published by Neil Butter, a retired lawyer. In them, things are rarely what they seem and the frequent twists are guaranteed to cause surprise or even shock. Some stories are absurdly funny, others more serious but with a strong undercurrent of humour. So the reader will soon be laughing at tales involving an obstinate sat-nav, a husband and wife who like playing with fire, a victorious bull (or was it?), a vicar out of his depth, an alarming guest at a B&B, a police officer who finds pleasure in massaging figures, a dentist`s love-life, strange customs on a remote island, a gay dog, and a puzzled ghost. And 20 others! 'Witty, irreverent and very funny,' a critic said of one of the previous collections. The same, and more, can be said of this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read 8 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Being short stories this little book is ideal to have to read while waiting for the train. However, the stories are so good that one is tempted to read one more and so miss the train. This is the third book by this author and yet again he shows his penetrating sense of humour and keen observation of human nature. You feel will smile and feel a little sad in equal proportion as you are taken through the many circumstances of human and animal behaviour.

5.0 out of 5 stars A first rate collection of stories 7 Mar 2014
Format:Paperback
The writer is the equal of de Maupassant or Saki. Some of the stories are very short - less than a page - and some are longer - eight or ten pages - but with many a surprise twist which you don't see coming. I tried to limit myself to one or two stories per evening so as to try and make the book last, but could rarely resist carrying on and reading at least one more. This is a really good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bite-sized twists - a perfect literary snack 4 April 2014
By Chalex
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book lives up to the expectations built by the first two: intelligent and surprising short stories that are sure to provoke a giggle, a raised eyebrow, or occasionally a pause for thought. Where does Butter get all his ideas from?! I hope he keeps them coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars They may be short, but they are totally engaging 2 April 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I wasn't sure whether a story that was only 2 pages long could really grab me and have me connect with it. How wrong i was. Neil Butter's humour screams off the page and even though each story is complete, it's always good to left wanting more... So Neil from me, and many others - more please more.....

5.0 out of 5 stars another winner from Neil Butter 26 Mar 2014
Format:Paperback
Another collection of stories from Neil Butter is now an eagerly awaited event and this latest collection has not disappointed. Witty, clever, surprising, these stories show Neil Butter's wryly humorous view of the human race in a most entertaining way. The stories are short, some only a page, but all will make the reader smile at the twists and turns the author plots for our amusement. This is an unputdownable book - I devoured it at one sitting and felt much better for it!
