Synopsis
This beloved French television series centres around the friendship between Sebastien, an 8-year-old boy living in an Alpine village, and Belle, a huge Pyrenees dog he finds running wild in the Alps. The boy and his dog spark the ire of the villagers, who are terrified of Belle because they don't understand her. Includes all 13 episodes from the first series, broadcast on the BBC in the late 1960s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful series , 17 Sep 2006
By Miland Joshi (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews
I have greatly enjoyed the DVD edition of this moving story about the relationship between Sebastien, a lonely little boy and an orphan, brought up by the people who found him, and Belle, a large white dog who takes to the mountains as a result of ill-treatment by humans but who also takes to the boy and their adventures together. I first saw the series on TV decades ago. But the series can be recommended for adults as well as kids. Wholesome entertainment altogether.

5.0 out of 5 stars A CHILDHOOD MEMORY, 20 Sep 2003
MY first memories of watching TV involve the programme Belle and Sebastien. I remember sitting on a horse-hair settee in my Great -Grandfather's house on the Isle of Man, sitting transfixed as Sebastien and Belle wondered up and down mountains, righting wrongs. The horse hair used to stick into my bare legs, and made my nose itch. Nothing mattered except the programme.
I never believed that I would be able to see this show again, although its theme tune still echoed in my head all these years later. But now, after its release on DVD earlier this year, I can relieve all my memories - time and time again.
Yes, the shows does seem a bit dated and, yes, it not as sophisticated as those being made for children today. But, and its a big BUT, this show has a magical charm that has lasted the decades. My children sit as memorised in front of it now as I did many moons ago. A sign of quality I think.
