Book Description

This is the city.

Murder and violence is all in a day’s work for Lieutenant Vincent Girardi. But there is something about this murder that doesn’t add up. When a piece of paper with an address written on it is found at the crime scene, Vince believes that perhaps this victim wasn’t the intended target.

Dr. Rowan Delaney is biding her time. In less than a week she will give testimony that will rid her of a painful past once and for all, and grant her and her two children the freedom she has been seeking for years. When Lieutenant Vincent Girardi and his partner show up at her door to question her about the murdered woman across the street, and then suggest that she may have been the intended target, she refuses all help or protection, intending to fulfill her obligation in front of the Grand Jury without interference from anyone—including the handsome cop darkening her doorstep.

But the Lieutenant has other plans. He is convinced the pretty doctor was the intended victim, and he is determined to find out why, starting with Rowan’s absentee husband, head of a notorious drug cartel. Vince is determined to see the woman and her children safe; Rowan is determined to start her life over—after her testimony.

Can Vince protect her without his feelings for her getting in the way? And can Rowan accept his care, along with a heavy dose of hubris and alpha dominance, without losing herself in the process?

And will their growing love be enough to save them from the evil that will not take no for an answer?

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me on the edge of my seat! 28 May 2013
Wow! I just finished Jade Cary's Bella Rosa- a suspense & spanking (S&S - it's a new genre! ) and it was a wild ride! I was sucked right in from the beginning and swept into the intrigue of Rowan, a smart and sexy surgeon, her drug cartel running ex-husband, an FBI agent out for personal vengeance, and Vince, the lieutenant who tries to keep our heroine safe.

The sexual tension between Rowan and Vince drives the pacing as much as the suspense thread, which is very well done. Vince is all alpha- bordering on macho, and the first spanking is non-consensual- Jade's favorite thing. I think non-consensual is hot, but I do get itchy with non-con in modern day settings. In this case, Rowan had just disobeyed Vince and taken a huge security risk, and the cop took her over his knee in anger. Jade is an incredible writer, so I had already fully identified with Rowan, and Jade made the situation about as real as it could be- Rowan's pride was stung by the spanking, and she was hurt and offended. She slinks into her room and starts packing her bag and I was cheering for her to leave. Of course, if she'd left, there would be no more book, and Vince wouldn't have had a chance to redeem himself, which he does, although it took me longer to forgive him than it took Rowan.

Jade doesn't write spanking fiction per se, it's more a suspense/romance that happens to have spanking in it. You don't get that feeling of the nod and the wink between author and spanko that says, "I'm writing this to turn you on." Rather, she offers a top notch main-stream feeling plot with a dominant male who happens to believe in spanking his woman.

4.0 out of 5 stars good story line 27 July 2013

Intriguing story line a bit more than your average DD storyline. Hot detective versus independent woman. makes a refreshing change to have a more mature female with children. Would recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Spanking Story that is STORY 14 April 2013
By Saoirse - Published on
I'm a difficult reader. I apologize. (Not really) I want the hot spanking scenes-and the hot sex--but I insist on a story. I want developed characters that aren't just cutouts rubber stamped on the laptop screen. I know there are readers who are quiet, shy, maybe timid. Apparently, there really are women who act like Reality TV stars. Of course there are women comfortable acting impulsively, in a carefree manner, maybe even carelessly, regardless of the situation. And granted, not everyone is comfortable being in charge. But, for better or worse,I was born, and encouraged by nurture, an alpha woman. I want a heroine who is a woman I can relate to, strong, courageous, independent, mature, competent, AND (This is really important): She can't be what we romance writers call TSTL (Too Stupid To Live).
Also, (go ahead, shoot me!), I want a plot--one that is credible. While we modern, strong women may still want the alpha wolf as a partner, we can't all be kidnapped by slavers and sold to Sheiks, or time travel back to the Scottish highlands in the 1800s.
Rowan Delaney is a woman I can relate to, and her situation, while it may be a tiny stretch for me personally, is credible.
As another reviewer commented, one of the major challenges to a writer in this genre is the non consensual spanking scene. Jade pulls it off. I could completely buy the entire scene. Rowan is extremely attracted to Vince and decides to make her move, clad in only his cast off white dress shirt. But she loses confidence and bungles the scene. Vince, being male, misinterprets, feels played, gets pissed. Rowan retreats and goes for a run to sort herself out, forgetting Vince's prohibition about putting herself in danger. She doesn't see herself as in danger going for a run. Been there--done that--felt the wrath....)
Another one of my apparently difficult desires for a book is that it be a novel, not a short story, not a novella. It's not easy top deliver the other things I want in 20-30 thousand words. Jade has given readers a book.
Last but not by no means least, Jade gives the reader an idea of what comes next for one couple, after the initial settling in power struggles are resolved; Vince and Rowan add a dos of dominance and submission to their everyday lovemaking-which rings true for me.....

I became a fan of Jade Cary the minute I started reading Point of it All. I was waiting for this one. I'm also waiting for the next one....

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicting Book 26 Mar. 2013
By Tanya - Published on
Jade Cary has been one of my favorite authors since her first novel "The Point of it All". That's why, as soon as I heard of this new book release, I rushed to buy a copy.
I'm glad I did, "Bella Rosa" is the best book of its kind.
It's a story that entrap, captivate and make you stay up all hours reading.

As for "The point of it all", the story could easily stand alone and be a good suspence novel, but with addition of erotic elements and spanking scenes this book is certainly a must-read for all spanking lovers.

Last but not least, unlike most of the other offerings on the market, "Bella Rosa" with its 35 chapters is an actual full-length story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent spanking romance/thriller 12 April 2013
By Rollin - Published on
Bella Rosa is what I would call a hybrid--not strictly a spanking romance and not strictly a crime drama. It's a nice blend of both.

The plot is not unique, but Ms. Cary puts a spin on it that I found compelling. Rowan Delany, the former wife of a mobster becomes the target of an unknown assassin. Enter Vince Girardi a police detective assigned to protect her. Dr. Delany is independent, headstrong and heedless of the danger that stalks her. Feelings develop between the two and a romance blooms. But not before Vince has to lay down the law to the somewhat spoiled lady doctor.

In my view the hardest thing to pull off in a spanking romance novel set in contemporary times is a non-consensual spanking scene between the two principal characters. In today's culture the idea of spanking an adult woman against her will is a totally unacceptable, politically incorrect notion. But in contemporary spanking romances it happens all the time and frequently leaves the reader asking `why doesn't she sue him for assault?' The trick is to make it seem plausible and justified under the circumstances.

The groundwork is laid by Vince who forbids her to leave the house and go shopping. An argument ensues in which she actually bites his finger. At that point he asks if she would like for him to take her upstairs and give her a good spanking. Later, after they retreat to his remote mountain cabin (which is a strategy designed to hide her from the stalker) he warns Rowan that she'd better heed his rules for her personal safety. Failure to do so could mean that promised but deferred spanking. Well of course she "forgets," puts herself in harms way and here we go--a non-consensual spanking.

Ms. Cary pulls it off. She succeeds admirably and handles the scene in a way that is not only very believable, but is ultimately satisfying. And, it's hot, setting the stage for future scenes of domestic discipline and resulting sexual encounters. The sex and spanking scenes are fully realized and well described, and the plot has some interesting twists. I also enjoyed the final showdown, a climactic scene with tense action sequences that were very well done.
