This is a noble and refreshing attempt to give a different perspective - it promotes life and love without the saccharine Hollywood gloss. It is so detailed it takes a couple of watches (at least) to really get everything you can from it but it is clear from a first viewing that this first time director has an immense talent. The acting is superb and understated. Set in a bustling New York and shot in such away that you almost feel you are pounding the pavements along with the characters this really is an experience you don't get with your usual blockbuster.
Having won awards over big budget blockbusters no film has earned its place more than Bella and no film can possibly deserve to be there more. Watch this film - and not just once - if nothing else it will make you think and it might even make you act and react in a positive way to some of life's big questions and life's littlest people.

I stumbled across this little-known movie and was initially doubtful about it but once I started watching it, I was hooked. It is a sweet (but not sappy) love story about a struggling waitress in New York City and a soccer player whose career is ended when a tragic accident happens. The movie follows these two characters through a day in NYC and how this day changed them and their lives. I had not heard of any of the actors but their talent shines from the screen in this movie. It is moving and beautiful in its simple yet complex tale of human lives. Watch it!

What a treat to watch an American film which has nothing in common with typical Hollywood output. This wonderful film is about people, real people, coping with their all too real problems. So no explosions, no car chases, nobody draws a gun or gets naked (apart from a discreetly symbolic cleansing moment). People get into a mess, people show some character, and maybe it all works out. I loved this film and urge you to try it.

Bella is a movie with a message, the message of this one is that a child need not be thrown away cos it doesnt fit in with personal circumstances. Yes its a prolife movie. wellmade, kinda arty. Though it did take awhile to understand the ending.
