I didn't think I would be able to say anything about a light bulb except "it works" but actually I researched all 284mm bathroom strip light bulbs I could find and concluded the following.
LED replacements were very, very expensive and not particularly bright. They would probably be "ok" but not especially bright compared to an incandescent lamp.
Some incandescent lamps were brighter than others (all being 60W in my comparison quest).
This particular bulb is stated as being 530 lumens bright - brighter than most and twice as bright as the LED replacement bulbs I found (at about 10 times the cost, I might add). It is also frosted rather than clear which gives a more diffused, less harsh light I find.
So this is the bulb I ended up with and it's fine: bright and cheap enough although I would dearly have loved to try out a cool-running, cheap-to-run LED replacement bulb (perhaps in 5 years' time when they have dropped in price).
Until then I'll stick to this one.
