Works so rarely it is not worth it. Switching between computers frequently (2/3 of the time) caused mouse and keyboard to stop working. My mouse is wireless and deep in Belkin's FAQ on their website they say it might not work with wireless mice. However, my keyboard is a fairly standard wired model from Microsoft and I could not find any reason this would not work.

I found it was easier to not have a KVM and plug/unplug my mouse and keyboard cables each time I switch than use this horrible bit of hardware.

Works a charm 30 Nov 2009
Hi,

I felt the need to write a quick reveiw for this item, becuase for me at least, its not as bad as the reviews make out. Usually when i see something with this many bad reviews i wouldnt buy it, but i thought its a brand name item so it cant be too bad can it?

Background: I have the wired button version with no audio connector. The switch links my desktop and laptop to one keyboard/mouse. I have it connected to a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 wired keyboard and Logitec wireless optical TrackMan mouse. Im currently not using the VGA connector as i have 2 screens.

Comments: It works! When you press the little button (which has a plenty long enough cable to place it anywhere on your desk) it takes around 5 seconds to swap over control to the other system. I think the delay vaires on how quickly your computers recognise new bits of hardware, both my computers are quite new so they react pretty quickly. Although i havent fully tested out the monitor connection i would advise that you use the shortest VGA cable that will reach. Once you start getting near to 5m in cable length (with analogue VGA cables) the picture quaility can suffer ghosting and interferance, expecially if you start putting KVM switches in the way.

Build quailty: Overall it feels pretty sturdy, all the connectors seem good quailty, as you would expect from Belkin. The changer button feels a bit light and delicate, also im not a particular fan of the green and yellow colour scheme, but other than thats its good. There are some nice touches, i like the way it combines the keyboard and mouse USB's into just one, thus freeing up a USB port. I also like how the LED on the button changes colour so you can see what computer is connected at the time.

Added bonus: There is downloadable software that lets you do the following (see the Belkin wesbite):
Switch2 Audio - listen to music on one computer while you work on the other
Switch2 Video - switch computers without switching your audio
Hot Keys - switch computers using a sequence on your keyboard

Dont forget to check which version you are buying becuase there are 6 different flavours to choose from all with different features and connectors.

Very Poor 29 April 2007
Simple enough to setup, but I can only describe it as flaky at best. Screen flickers every few seconds when connected to a Vista laptop (monitor is fine when connected directly). The USB mouse is not always picked up when switching between PC's. I went for a cheap option to see if a KVM switch is worth it. I should have opted for a more expensive model. Avoid.

Rubbish.
This KVM switch is one of the most expensive KVM's I would find. However, the idea of a detached button to switch between PC's, and the prospect of USB rather than PS2 convinced me... Read more
