This product was a waste of my time and money,

Like Steve, this product was exactly what I needed. I wanted to capture some old camcorder footage of the kids and of holidays - about 30 hours on analog tapes. This looked like it would do it for me. Hi resolution capture via USB. My machine spec is way over what was specified by Belkin (I run a Pentium-D with 2 GB RAM, very fast hard drives (WD Raptors) etc etc...)So, I installed it using the lates drivers from the Belkin site. I spent a bit of time getting the sound capture working right. Then I started to capture video. On low resolution, I could capture about one or two minutes of video before it froze. I once managed to capture 8 whole minutes. I was not getting any dropped frames. The capture just stopped. On the high resolution setting, the longest I managed was less than a minute. Put it simply, this product was never going to let me do the one-off job of capturing my 30 hours of the family. Sad really, as I have had several other good products from Belkin, but this one was a complete miss for me. I hope this helps,

Try something else,

In theory, this does exactly what I need - capture hi-res video at 30fps through my USB2 port. Unfortunately it failed to deliver. My PC meets the recommended specifications, but the device fails to function properly. It crashes the video-capture software I already have (NERO) and the software included (ULEAD Video Studio) manages to capture only extremely jerky video, interspersed with large pauses. After adjusting every possible hardware and software setting, and contacting Belkin customer support, I'm still not getting a result. There are plenty of alternative products on the market which do the same thing, so I'd advise you to try something else.

I normally quite like Belkin kit, but this one is past its sell-by date. I used it a few times, but the quality of the video I captured was poor and it was way too much hassle. The software also seemed quite buggy. If you're looking for a way to get old video or TV onto your PC, I'd suggest buying a DVD-recorder instead. This will cost as little as £20 more than the Belkin machine and be hugely easier to use. You will still be able to rip DVDs that you've recorded yourself onto your PC, but the whole process will be much easier.
