The card I bought first had a Via chipset and refused to work with a JVC GR-D820 miniDV camcorder. This one has a Texas Instruments chipset and is very much plug and play. It worked with Windows Vista (Home Premium, 32 bit) and took less than five minutes to install, automatically load the drivers and start downloading the camcorder to Premiere Elements (also works fine with Windows Movie Maker).

Bought this, along with a Firewire cable to transfer my precious home movies to PC / DVD. Works well with my JVC mini DV camcorder as it has a Texas Instruments chipset which are known to work well with JVC models. I did have to cut the card down a little to fit in my Dell 3100C PC which has a slimmer case than most desktop PC's but most people will not encounter this problem. Overall a good product at a very reasonable price - good service and support from supplier also.

I received this card within a few days. It was easy to install and Windows 7 recognised it immediately.

Works perfectly with my aging Sony camcorder and Corel's Videostudio.

I'd had an ancient (maybe 10 years old) FireWire card that Ubuntu finally ceased to support with version 10.10. I'd been told that TI-based cards were the best, but it's pretty hard to find that information before you buy. This card turned out to be just what I needed. In it went, and now all my FireWire peripherals are working again.

I slotted this firewire card into my Dell PC (with Windows Vista) and it worked straight away without any hassle.

To use the firewire card to transfer home movies from my digital camcorder to my PC (transferred as a video file): I just have to plug the video camera into my new firewire slot (a firewire cable is needed) and then it's very easy to transfer any length of video to the PC and create a new video file. (Once the camcorder is plugged into the firewire slot, and turned on, Windows Vista automatically detects the camcorder and auto-starts software that is easy to use to create a video file. Basic editing can then be carried out using Windows Movie Maker, if desired.)

(Note: you need a 'digital' video camera with a 'firewire' slot for compatibility with a firewire card).

Bought this card to download digital video from a Sony PC5 camcorder. Using Dell Dimension 4600i PC running Windows XP SP3 with Windows MovieMaker and Sony Vegas video editing software. This card works like a dream and for those of you with similar systems who can't get IEEE 1394 (firewire) to work, like me beforehand, the answer seems to be that this card uses chips made by Texas Instruments. TI chips are compatible with Windows XP whereas the chips used on my Pinnacle card weren't. The card was inserted in a spare PCI slot and was true plug and play with no further installation or drivers required. Minutes later I had successfully downloaded DV onto the hard drive and was ready for editing. Highly recommended.

First off, this card works fine and I have had no problems with it, however I do feel there could have been better details listed on Amazon about it.

I wanted to replace my existing firewire card hoping it would solve some issues I've been having with a camcorder. My old card was designed for XP so I wanted to buy a new one designed for my new PC running Windows 7. I couldn't find any details about what operating systems this card worked with on Amazon, but I decided to take a chance and assume hardware being sold as 'new' nowadays would actually be new.

Unfortunately, when it arrived and I was able to read the instruction book included, it says it's designed for WINDOWS 98, 2000, ME AND XP. Not what I wanted.

But I installed it anyway and it worked fine with my windows 7 machine... No different to the old one I started with in the first place!

But as I said it works fine, just be aware this is NOT a new piece of hardware.

Bought this card to allow video capture from my Sony camera onto my desktop system using Linux Mint. An excellent card, does exactly what it says on the tin. It went in easily, worked first time and still works reliably. What more to say? I'm a big fan of Belkin gear, never had a single problem and I've bought a few! By the way, this isn't an unusual experience using Linux as pretty much everything works without having to load software on a CD (although on this product that's not needed on any OS). If you're interested just google Linux Mint, download it and use it for free! Plug over...
