Like other reviewers I have tried several FM transmitters before and have given up with them as they are an absolute pain to use when you are on a journey - you need to keep fiddling about with them to get a good reception station - NOT to be recommended from a safety angle let alone your sanity.

Now to the Belkin iPod Tunebase FM II - what a superb piece of equipment. Its exceedingly well made and the designers have included all the add-on adaptors that you will need for whichever iPod you have. They have also included adaptors in case your auxilliary power (cigar lighter socket) isn't quite right.

Straight out of the packet and into the car, a quick press of the clearscan button, re-tune the radio and WOW - crystal clear and steady reception. Its not often that I am impressed by over exaggerated claims on the packaging but in this case, this unit DELIVERS. Its also a nice looking piece of equipment and looks as though it will last for long enough too. Perhaps you might think its a bit pricey, but my advice - stip wasting your money on cheap units which you will soon chuck. If you want to listen to your iPOd in the car, then this unit is definitely the best investment. Well done to the designers! I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

Oh, nearly forgot - it also charges your iPod - a nice touch and I would think essential if you spend a long time behind the wheel.

I ordered this item after alot of online research but with no assurance it would work with my 3G iphone. No compatibility mentioned on packaging. My previous fm transmitter, xtrememac had worked trouble free for years with all my other ipods. Not however with the iphone! (made for ipod obviously doesn't include iphone.)
Another 3rd party car charger also failed to work.
I have been more than impressed so far with the Belkin TuneBase FM. Out of the box I plugged the iphone in, inserted it into the cigarette lighter and was pleased that charging was facilitated. I then tuned the Belkin easily into one of my preset channels, hit the ipod play button and hey presto music to my ears.
There are several presets which enhance the volume and clarity of transmission. Initially on each preset there was aproximately 1 - 2 seconds of background hiss which rapidly disappeared. The quality is at least as good as I'm used to, if not better. On receiving a call via handsfree bluetooth I experienced no interference.
A range of adapters are included for all ipods including the touch. Currently I have set it up with the ipod classic holder and the black square rubber backing. (All is understood if you purchase the product.)
This setup seems to ensure a firm hold but allows easy and scratch free insertion and removal.
I have ordered the Invisible Shield cover but await delivery so I am paranoid about potential scratches.

In summary: There is a more expensive made for iphone model made by Belkin but I haven't been able to source it in the UK. With this model I can confirm 3G compatibilty with charging and FM transmission.
I will update this review if any issues arise.

Belkin iPod TunebaseFM I purchased this after reading all the reviews but it was just so bad. Where to start?
1. You can only read the display easily if you look directly at it (not possible in either or my cars) 2. The connection gets loose after being taken in and out a few times, obviously you need to take it out or its like putting a big sign in the window that reads " MP3 player inside please break in!" 3. The clear scan did not work, always took me to the same frequency, wherever I was. 4. The unit I had was faulty as it had bad static interference unless you touched it. (tried this in three cars, always the same.) and one of the memory presets did not work. 5. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE. Belkins customer service is appalling. It took FIFTEEN days to reply to my email and then only after wasting time with call centre operators who read from a script and have no clue how to think for themselves. No chance of a refund. They were so bad I contacted Amazon to ask for advice. They could not have been more helpful. Within minutes I was emailed return labels and 24 hours later the item was returned and my card being refunded. SO FIVE STARS FOR AMAZON AND MINUS SEVERAL MILLION FOR BELKIN. My advice is put your money towards a new ICE with an MP3 jack or an adaptor which will plug into the CD changer or similar, you can get either starting from @£40.
