3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate 6 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase
The adaptor works OK and is easy to install but its working range is very low.
If used in a different room its max. transmitting speed does not go much above 3Mb
(Tried on 2 different Hubs, BELKIN & VIRGINS NETGEAR)
But good value for its price

5.0 out of 5 stars Did just what I needed 25 Feb 2013

I ordered this really not knowing if I was buying the right product. I wanted to convert to wireless broadband and my elderly PC was not talking to my BT home hub, with a bit of research I found out that I needed to attach a gizmo to the PC to make the wireless thingy work ( as you may gather I'm not too technical ! ), I ordered this as a bit of a stab in the dark and hey presto wireless broadband in less than 10 minutes, the only down side is that one of my USB ports is now permanently out of action as the gizmo attaches to the USB hub but its a small price to pay to ensure that I continue to be on-line without masses of cables trailing up the stairs !

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, Durable and Easy to Install 26 Jan 2013

Fantastic piece of kit. I bought this for my elderly desktop computer as I had recently move my router downstairs to hook up to the Sky+ box. Knowing i would not need a super speed, super signal dongle i saw this bad boy and bought it. Works just how you expect and was very easy to install. My PC now has constant full WiFi signal too despite going through a couple of walls and the ceiling. The size allows it to have an invisible feel to it and isn't prone to being knocked out when i move my tower to clean etc. Would highly recommend this product to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Raspbmc Raspberry Pi 22 Jan 2013
By Chris
Verified Purchase
FYI this has a Realtek RTL8188CUS chip.

To set up wifi for Raspbmc it is easy as Pi.

1. Install Raspbmc on your SD card. (See Tutorial)
2. In XBMC (once you have loaded it up keep the network cable inserted): Programs, Get More..., Network-Manager... Install
3. Set up Wifi in Network-Manager
4. Insert Dongle

5. (now the not so tricky bit) In either a SSH window or Command line (Accessed by the standby logo in the bottom left hand corner, first Exit then press the Esc key, then log in with: pi and password: raspberry) type:

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Then add the line under the current one:
deb [...] squeeze main non-free

Then press Ctrl and O
Then Enter
Then Ctrl X

Then type:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firmware-realtek

6. Then: sudo reboot
7. Network-Manager select and type in your network password.
8. Remove your network cable

Good Luck :D

This product works for the purpose I bought it for.

Works with the raspberry pi on raspbmc playing 1.1gb video without jitter. That's directly in the pi without powered USB hub.

It does work.
However I had purchased it only to connect the wifi to my smart tv. So this ended up being the wrong product. No returns form inside to return.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little adapter
Quality product, does what it is supposed to do - works in the Raspberry Pi out of the box, but Windows 7 did require driver download.

Great product for a decent price.
