5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish protection... 4 Dec. 2013
By John P. Jones III TOP 500 REVIEWER
Colour Name:Blacktop
This is my first non-book review of a product sold by Amazon. I decided to forego a certain self-defined "purity" of only reviewing books, and felt that reviewing a product that is associated with the reading process could be viewed as merely expanding the review process slightly. The rationalization could be a slippery slope.

I recently purchased the Kindle Fire HD 7", which I have yet to review. On the next "targeted" Vine newsletter, there were NO books, only covers for my Kindle Fire... which, admittedly I needed, so I decided why not. A reward to myself, as well as those clever folks who do the "targeting."

Belkin has produced a well-designed, stylish cover. The Kindle snaps into the hard plastic cover perfectly, with sufficient snugness so that it will not fall out. Access to the power and control buttons is provided. And there is a convenient elastic strap that readily secures the front cover to the back. The gray cloth cover and the black letter trim provide a very professional appearance. The inside of the front cover contains three grooves so that the Kindle may be placed upright, in "landscape" mode, that is horizontally, for viewing movies in particular, but also for reading.

I checked the criticisms of the cover in some of the other reviews. True, the cover does not provide a facility for the Kindle to stand in the vertical, at different angles. And the front cover does not attach to the back cover. But at least for my purposes, I did not find either purported deficiency to be a drawback. I found it quite comfortable to read in "portrait" mode, that is, vertically, with the cover folded behind the Kindle. And if I wanted to read while it is free-standing, reading in "landscape" mode works well for me, particularly if there are pictures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good 16 Dec. 2013
Colour Name:Purple
Wasn't very happy about the choice available when I purchased this and picked it as sort of the best of a bad bunch but I have actually been really pleasantly surprised with it. It does everything I need it to do, very lightweight, fits perfectly and is very smart when closed. It stands up quite well and is easy to use the charger etc. with the cover on. It looks so much better in real life than in the pictures online. Only 3 downsides:
1. Because it is so light it does feel slightly flimsy but this doesn't seem to be a problem, it still does its job, and I personally like the fact that it is so light
2. Tucking it all in to hold up for reading is a little awkward as the band that holds it in place moves around a bit, but again this isn't really a problem and I'm getting used to it.
3. I think it is over-priced (at £30 for me) but as more options become available perhaps the price will go down

Overall, I would recommend this product without hesitation.

2.0 out of 5 stars Belkin Chambray Case for Kindle fire HDX 7". 21 Nov. 2013
Colour Name:Slate|Verified Purchase
This is an overpriced accessory that has, in my view, ripped me off.
It consists of a piece of fabric covered card that you clip your Kindle into and that has a flap that will close over the screen when it is not in use. When using the Kindle the case folds open so that you should be able to prop the kindle upright to view the screen -hands free. This feature is flimsy and my Kindle keeps slipping from the support.
I suppose it might protect my Kindle if it was being carried in a bag. For the money I feel it is a waste of space. Don't buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Belkin 4 Dec. 2013
Colour Name:Blacktop|Verified Purchase
Really good feel to it and makes me feel that the notepad is secure and wont get damaged. I can also clip my stylus on to the strap so they are always together.

2.0 out of 5 stars No real drop protection when open 7 Nov. 2014
Colour Name:Blacktop
Nice looking and quite functional, but disappointingly offers very little protection if open and dropped face down (which frustratingly happened to me). Maybe all cases suffer this, but the way it grips the device means there's very little protection of the screen when it's open, and it won't protect from even a small drop (less than half a metre for me). Shame, but good enough case to protect when not in use and act as a stand.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good value for money 12 Jan. 2015
By eyespy
Colour Name:Sorbet
I picked one up for 10p from a sales bin at PCWorld - for this price it's ok - for the full rrp it's appalling value for money.
The plastic base into which you secure the HDX is good quality and a good fit, it holds the device firmly and and all buttons and ports are easily accessible, the speaker grills are placed correctly and have no effect on sound volume.
The fold-over cover is a little flimsy and can be easily bent out of shape. The fabric part of the cover is a dirt magnet, mine is already stained from a little horror picking it up with her grubby, sticky little fingers. If it was leather or plastic it could be wiped clean but once grease gets into fabric the stain is going to stay.
The case can hold the HDX at about a 45 deg tilt (middle groove) in landscape but it is liable to slip out of one of the 3 available grooves if there's too much movement. There is no tilt facility in portrait.
For the rrp I would have expected automatic on/off when opening/closing the cover but no you don't get this which is a shame - this omission and the use of an elastic band to secure the cover in the closed position go to make this case poor value for money.
