Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

When we first meet Huw, he's recovering from terrible injuries sustained in the accident which killed both his parents. Still barely reconciled to his loss, he suffers another close scrape when he is almost hit by a car--a twist of fate, it transpires, that entwines his destiny with that of Hal, a man tormented by an ancient curse. After this second accident, the bad dreams which have plagued him since the death of his parents get harder to bear and Huw finds himself stuck in a kind of waking sleep. As he becomes increasingly entangled in the web of Hal's darkest fears, he realizes that they have no choice but to confront their worst nightmares together.

Catherine Fisher's hypnotic thriller takes an instant hold on the imagination, gathering pace as the story hurtles towards a terrifying climax, with Hal's curse taking its final toll and Huw fighting for his life and sanity on Belin's Hill. --Susan Harrison --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

incorrect synopsis 19 Feb 2009
Format:Audio CD
Beware!!!
Do not buy this book based on the review above, it has been placed with the wrong title. The synopsis above belongs with another of Catherine Fisher's excellent titles called 'Belin's Hill'. I bought 'The Empty Hand' because I liked the synopsis/review that had been attached to it-incorrectly as it turned out.
'The Empty Hand' is the second part of The Snow-Walker trilogy, and the story is completely different to what the review/synopsis above suggests. Someone has made a mistake!

I like all Catherine Fisher's books but this one is the star for me. Set in a cold Viking world with a force of evil scarier than Beowulf's monster, because it doesn't really have a fixed shape and isn't even knowingly malicious. Scared the wits out of me.

What I like best about this one is the way supernatural and historical forces interact with the very real, present-day grief of Huw trying to come to terms with having survived the accident that killed his parents
