The whole series of Red River in Dakota is enthralllng. The family continue to live in my memory long after I put the book down. They trust The Lord as they tackle all that life throws at them and, although they have dark moments, as all of us do, their faith and trust brings them through.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is like reading my heritage story! 5 Sep 2003
By Edith A. Alexander - Published on
As a daughter of a Swedish immigrant that homesteaded in North Dakota in the early 1900's, I have read the 6 book series of Red River, and the first 2 return books. I have shared them with my sisters and daughter. Today I am buying return #3. These books are so real, they are like re-living my childhood. These thing really happened the way the author describes it. I can't wait to see if the series continues!! Awesome, historical, can't put down, truly enjoyable reading!! These books have enhanced my memories, and I recomend them to anyone interested in Dakota history, or Scandinavian immigration!!

Believing the Dream (Return to Red River #2)

I consider this the Red River Of The Valley series #8. Lauraine Snelling has drawn us back to the lives of her beloved characters, in a way that she does so well. We've watched most of these characters grow up, and learn about life, love, and God's timing along the way. I will not tell you exactly what happens, because I don't do that in my reviews (I won't give away specifics). This book is split between 3 different places, and the way they are intertwined is so exciting! You really want to read more and more until you finish the book! In this particular book you have: a few deaths, a new older deaf student, a dream comes true, blizzard in Blessing, illness, a new immigrant arrives and tries to blend in, a new courting couple, and due to an overseas trip a couple parts ways. I am so glad that Lauraine Snelling has taken us again back to the characters that we've seen and loved in her previous series and book. She is an author who takes her studying of the history of this time, very seriously. I find her a wonderful author who has impeccable sources (as she has had through this series and "Red River Of The North" series before this one). You will want to know what happens to the main characters, and look forward to reading the very next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars More on Thorliff 8 April 2003
By Coppertop - Published on
Thorliff is off trying to get his college education. There are some really sad moments, but also some really happy ones, too. I must say that I'm rooting for Anji to come to her senses and go back to Thorliff. I like Elizabeth, but just don't think she's the right wife for Thorliff. I like the new characters, but I do wish for more about the ones in Blessing. It was a wonderful book though and I can't wait to read the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Series of Books 13 Feb 2014

I have read the whole series of the Red River Books and loved every one of them and was sad when the story ended. Laurine Snelling is a wonderful author and I love how she showed how through the love of God people made it through the difficult 1800 years and into the 1900's I also liked the traditions and food of the people from Norway. My grandparents came from Sweden and their traditions were very similar.
