I first acquired a love of Belgian waffles during holidays, and set out to recreate the breakfast experience at home, researching many different (and often expensive) waffle makers. I admit that prior to purchase, I had my doubts about this machine - at less than thirty quid, I wondered how good it could be, compared to such manufacturers as Krups / Cuisinart.

In the end, I decided that with circa 50 people having rated this appliance as 5 stars, they surely couldn't be wrong, and proceeded to order this Posner waffle maker. I can honestly say that it has lived up to every expectation.

It is simplicity itself, simply lightly oil the machine plates (I apply a light coating of vegetable oil using a silicone pastry brush, however the health conscious may wish to consider using 1-calorie spray oil), switch on the machine, adjust the heat dial if you wish (however I simply leave mine on 'medium') wait until the green light goes out, then pour enough waffle mix into the machine (you will learn how much to add to avoid 'overspill' with experience) to cover the bottom plate, and close the lid.

Three to four minutes later (avoid the temptation to have a peek too early, or risk tearing your waffle!), open the lid to find perfect golden waffles inside - evenly cooked, soft and fluffy on the inside, but with a delightful light sugar 'crunch' on the outside.

The supplied waffle mix is delicious, however it is the easiest thing to make your own waffle batter, and it will typically keep in fridge for two days, in a covered container. Or, do as we do and batch-cook the waffles, freeze them, then remove and heat up in the toaster as and when required.

The waffles are very easily lifted off the non-stick surface with a silicone spatula.

I was dithering between James Martin’s waffle maker and this machine but was swayed by the reviews for this machine. I got my waffle maker last week and I have just tried it out. It was a lovely little machine, it’s not as big as I thought it would be and not at all heavy. So, I tried to make some waffles according to the recommendations. The first time round was abit of a disaster. I filled the waffle mix too much and I kept opening the machine every couple of minutes after the 3 minute recommendation to check if it was done or not as I liked my waffles abit brown and crispier and it took a good 8 minutes to cook according to my taste. The waffle mix spilled over. The second time round, I filled the waffle mix evenly and I worked it out, it takes 6-8 minutes for the waffles to get nice and brown and luckily there was no over-spill. The waffles tasted lovely, as I added loads of fruits and abit of indulgence of cream. The waffle mix was nice and had the right level of sweetness (not too sweet) which was good. You need to play around with the thermostat to get the right consistency of waffles, as I like mine well done, so the thermostat was near maximum

Unfortunately, I have to give this machine 2 stars because the downside is, this Posner waffle maker is not an easy machine to clean in my view. The cleaning instructions are not that good. I feel, you need to clean the machine much more than using a damp cloth and it’s not that easy getting the batter off and yes, I did try adding a bit of oil but it was useless. I had spills in the small nooks and crannies of the machine. There was crispy batter lodged in the nail, hinges of the machine inside and in the very small gap between the non-stick metal plates and its shell of a machine.

I was nervous about ordering this product as it hadn't been reviewed. I knew i wanted a deep waffle style maker and this is brilliant. When i first opened it i was worried that the top seemed quite loose and it doesn't have a catch to keep it closed? However when making my second batch of waffles i did over fill it and it just lifts slightly so the mixture didn't ooze all down the sides! I am still using my free bag of mix but plan to make my own after. The mix is lovely this makes light fluffy waffles and the machine is so easy to use and def. nonstick which is a bonus! I'm going to try freezing a few batches and can't wait to try some different flavours. i would def. recommend this machine it is quite compact but makes good size waffles.

The unit is small and compact. It makes 4 small triangular waffles (sometime interconnected depending on how much mixture you put in). It is easy to use and by filling the templates to that the mixture just covers the highest point there will be no overspill. The waffles take about five minutes to cook on the highest setting. Using a very small brush of oil prevents sticking. The waffles come out easily using a slight encouragement with a spatula (heat resistant material). Cleaning is remarkably easy. First, don't overfill and there will be no excess to get into the surroundings of the templates. Second, a quick wipe with a tissue or damp cloth is all that is needed. The waffle are deep but not too deep and come out coked perfectly, though you can lift the lid after a couple of minutes to see how they are doing, and then cook for longer to your taste. I can recommend this waffle maker highly and wish I'd bought one years ago, especially as the pre-umade mixtures yo can buy so cheaply save all of the hassle of having individual ingredients. I find that 250gm of mixture make about 8 waffles. Whilst cooking the smell is delicious and lingers for ages afterwards. Yummy!
