Product Description

Product Description

WOW! This Beka stainless steel Bain Marie/Double Boiler is amazing! You can now prepare milky dishes and sauces and avoid any risk of boiling over or burning!

It is SO easy to use, simply open the lid, pour 1/4L of water into the spout and place straight on the hob (any hob type including induction). Soon, the water inside the walls of the pan will boil and you can then safely cook food without risk of burning it or boil-overs. It works on the principal of the waterbath where the water inside the walls of the pan is boiling but the temperature inside the bowl never rises above approx 96c, making it perfect for melting chocolate, heating milk, defrosting, re-heating baby food and MUCH more!

And because it stays at 96c this is sufficient to sterilize, cook and prepare delicate dishes that musn't be allowed to reach boiling point.

Box Contains

  • 1 x Bain Marie/Double Boiler

Having changed to an induction cooker it has been difficult to cook a sauce or milk product without it catching and burning on the bottom of the pan.
The Beka Ban Marie has resolved this problem and I turn out a perfect sauce every time it is also fab for rice pudding and other related things.
On the down side the act of stirring inevitably causes some of the food to become stuck on fast and difficult to clean but filling with water and soaking for a while resolves this.
It is important not to over fill as it can boil out onto the cooker, and the catch on the handle can be tricky when the utensil is hot and you need to refill.
Even so this product gets the thumbs up from me, it has solved my burnt milk problem entirely.

Was given this as a present and thought "What's a Bain Marie?", but after having used it for several months i wouldn't be without it.
Basically, it's like putting a bowl over a Saucepan of boiling water to melt your chocolate etc, but this is so much less hassle because it's an all in one unit, so takes up less storage space in the cupboard. I'm a confirmed chocoholic so it's been brilliant for when i need melted chocolate for Flapjacks etc or just dipping marsh mallows in!!

I love this thing. I work 5 days a week and never have the time or energy to cook when I get home so I do all the cooking at weekends and this is ideal for warming up a precooked tasty meal without spoiling the flavour, I just load it, put it on a low heat and forget about it till I am ready to eat and the food is always hot and perfect.

I've been using the same bain-marie for over 12 years but unfortunately it was time to upgrade. This device looked very clever and looking at the glowing reviews I was swayed. I imagine if you want to use this for less than 45 minutes at a time then it'll work fine. No problems. It's when you get past this point that things start to go wrong. There is no way to tell what the water level is inside. They have a plastic gauge at the side which does not fill when you add the 1/4 litre of water stated in the instructions. Being a logical chap I figured this was part of the design. That when the water inside heated it would rise to the full level in this gauge and then gradually drop as the water inside it evaporated. But no. It never rose or dropped. The instructions expect you to gradually (blindly) add more water after 45 minutes. Any additional water I added however just spat out and hissed crazily. The instructions say that it hisses and spits when there is too much water in it but also says that it hisses and spits when it has enough water in it and that you shouldn't be concerned about this. Slightly contradictory really. It also has a tendency of spitting water into whatever you happen to be cooking in it. Not great if you are slowly cooking something that doesn't require any additional water.

If I were you I'd stay well away from this poorly designed technology and stick with the traditional bain-marie's out there. Mine is going straight back.

The quality of the Baine Marie far exceeded my expectation, I ordered 3 more for 'gifts'.
Its design is faultless with its wide base and large ergonomic handle which makes it so safe to use. The promise of next day delivery was fulfilled.

This solid, but simple one piece solution to the double pot "bain-marie" is clever, and it works. The instructions however refer to a "red button" which releases the lid where you add the water. Here's a clue; it's not the big red "button" on the top of the device, which isn't a button at all, it's the tiny red button on the left hand side of the handle.
It didn't take too long to work out, but I found it irritating. Hence four stars rather than the five it's performance deserves.
    Beka, take note.

This item was bought quite recently and I have used one over a number of years quite successfully. My previous one gave me many years of service and to be without one like this is truly difficult when one is entertaining family or friends it is such a wonderful product ensuring good sauces, gravies which are kept beautifully being prepared beforehand. I was very pleased to be able to yet again purchase this particular type of Bain Marie for use in the family kitchen.
