I picked up this book at a friends house, and within minutes of flicking through it, I was totally gripped by the story. I am aware of the Chilean tragedy with the Military Coup in 1973 and the dark years of Pinochet's brutal regime thereafter. But this book has brought to life the realities of what it was like for many living in Chile at that time. It is a deeply tender and tragic story, and the accounts of this man's experience living through such losses of dear loved ones and his sharing of the incomprehensible cruelty of the soldiers in the military prisons towards fellow human beings is heart breaking and sickening. Yet the incredible strength of heart for this man to withstand such brutal horrors is profound. Inevitably forced to leave Chile and his family behind to find exile in the UK. This story reflects the pain herein to piece a life back together after such extreme trauma, leading eventually to an opportunity to bring about criminal justice. I am touched and grateful to read the experiences of one who has survived breaking-point and yet who's heart is so intact with integrity and care for human kind. Thank you Luis Munoz for sharing your story, and creating hope.
