Product Description

Synopsis

The story of a young woman's travels into Mexico and her initiation into a group of sorcerers - including the infamous Don Juan - whereby she is drawn into the world of being-in-dreaming. Her story fulfills the feminine dimension of the spirit world first introduced by Castaneda.

From the Back Cover

"A woman's gripping tale of self-discovery in present-day Mexico."
OLIVER STONE

"Donner's tale casts a spell; it is a magic theater of holy actors, a dancing world of fierce angels all sweating their prayers. She offers us a brilliant taste of vintage sorcery and feminine wisdom."
GABRIELLE ROTH, author of 'Maps of Ecstasy: Teachings of an Urban Shaman'

"(Donner) challenges the world's most cherished social myths about reality, the nature of women, and the significance of dreams."
JUDITH PINTAR, author of 'Voices from the Earth'

Florinda Donner, the longtime colleague and fellow dream-traveler of Carlos Castaneda, offers a riveting autobiographical account of her halting, sometimes unwilling, often bewildering initiation into the world of being-in-dreaming. At turns spellbinding, mysterious, and humorous, 'Being-in-Dreaming' is ultimately an unforgettable spiritual adventure.

Florinda Donner is also the author of 'Shabono' and 'The Witch's Dream'.

Florinda Donner-Grau shares very special experiences of her contact with Carlos Castaneda and his group; her own initiation into their world is described with warmth and integrity. I loved her way of describing how her experiences happened and affected her. Very informative for women especially, if you are interested by this particular path. I would definitely recommend this book.

Absolutely Fabulous 17 Jan 2004

Format:Paperback
Florinda Donner-Grau racounts how she was ushered into the sorcerer's world to which Don Juan Matus belonged, her meeting with the female sorcerers, and eventually with Don Juan and Carlos Castaneda. The story is at once haunting and mysterious, hilarious at times, and very well written, but even more so it is a book that ventures beyond literature into the dreamed worlds of the shamans of Ancient Mexico.
Rather than repeat what Castaneda already wrote, she sheds light on how her initation was tailored to her being and gender. Marvelous.

If you are looking for true insight into the world of south american shamanism and sorcery then please take a look at this book. What makes it diffrent from all the other books out there is that it is told from the perspective of a female initiate in the art of 'Dreaming'. Once I began reading this book each night I would read for at least two hours straight before I could put the book down again. Florinda Donner has an incredible skill of bringing the reader into the pictures she paints with her personal stories. I could never rate this book highly enough. It will change the way you look at life and all that it means forever!
