Doesn't seem to be on the DVD, which makes watching episode one SOOO confusing. I mean, I did watch the pilot on youtube, but it would be nice to sit and watch it all in one or two settings and have it all make sense.
It's not particularly confusing without the pilot (all the elements carried over - which is pretty much limited to the vampire uprising only hinted at in the pilot - are re-explained; otherwise, the pilot is just an intro to the characters - there's not even as much backstory to their situations as is revealed in later episodes). The producers have also noted that it is NOT canon, though there isn't anything hugely contradictory in the series bar the occasional wayward line (and the otherwise bizarre conversation where George recounts what appears to be the events of the pilot to Annie).
That being said - the pilot was *fantastic*, and deserves to be included simply because it was good, regardless of whether it's necessary. It's an enormous blow not to have it on the official DVD set - which going by the reviews here is a pretty poor release anyway. A terrible shame; the series deserves much better representation than this...
youtube no longer is showing all six parts of the pilot and no the pilot epidsode isn't included in the DVD set of "being human", and there are a few more dispointing things in the release becuase the original music I heard hadn't been contracted for the DVD release of the series so they changed the songs out, which I'v heard kind of changes the feel of the series on the dvd set.
