Review

'Richard Gross has done an excellent job compiling all the relevant information into a "right-riveting-accessible-read." The book...combines the psychological and philosophical agreeably without bias and really makes you think about what makes us humans special. I would recommend it to anyone who has ever thought about themselves, their mind and why we do the things we do; or anyone who needs an initial outlook on human uniqueness in general.'

5.0 out of 5 stars An important text 20 Mar 2013

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book of Richard Gross is an important text to recommend to students of psychology who are keen to explore a wider, ongoing reflection of the implications of studies into the whole psychology of human life. It is well written, clear, and raises issues in the last two chapters relating well to the study of human consciousness which, I think in the future, will complement well ongoing studies in the neurosciences and neuropsychology.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great insight into what makes humans special. 19 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback
I am only up to chapter 4 but so far I have learnt a great deal about 'Being Human.'

The chapters are set out really well, with each one starting with key questions concerning the title of the specific chapter and continue with explanations for each question; there are pauses for reflection every so often to help the reader re-cap on what they have read. There are easy to follow tables and charts to help explain information and at the end of each chapter there is a summary (in bullet points) to help the reader go over the important points; there is also suggested further reading on the chapter and even selected websites.

Overall Richard Gross has done an excellent job compiling all the relevant information into a `right-riveting-accessible-read.' The book contains references at the back and a very informative glossary for the more complicated words. The book combines the psychological and philosophical agreeably without bias and really makes you think about what makes us humans special.

I would recommend it to anyone who has ever thought about themselves, their mind and why we do the things we do; or anyone who needs an initial outlook on human uniqueness in general. The book is only about 300 pages long but there is a myriad of information packed in that 300.

I already have the 'Psychology: The Science of Mind and Behaviour' book by Richard Gross and this book complements it greatly.
I am off to university later in the year so I have just finished my A-levels and this book has been a great help so far.

After you have read this review then don't hesitate to buy it....go on...buy it!
