From Amazon.co.uk

A vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost share an apartment in Bristol, England--it's not a joke, it's a supernatural TV series from the BBC! The smoldering vampire, Mitchell (Aiden Turner), struggles to change his bloodsucking ways; the werewolf, George (Russell Tovey), is a jittery guy who won't truly acknowledge and accept his curse; and the ghost, Annie (Lenora Crichlow), pines for her lost fiancé and has no idea what's keeping her tied to the living world. Over the course of the first season's six hour-long episodes, they face hidden secrets, a manipulative older werewolf, a vampire protégé out for revenge, mob prejudice, a doorway to the beyond, and an impending vampire takeover of the world. But the show's theme is right in the title, Being Human: the plot developments are really opportunities for the characters to grapple with fundamental human experiences, from dating anxiety to profound loss. It's unfortunate that expressing human nature all too often involves a lot of whining and mawkish emoting here, and the series has no coherent rules about supernatural powers (vampires can walk around in broad daylight, sometimes ghosts can be touched and sometimes they can't--basically, whatever's convenient to the current plot). None of this stops the passionate fan base of Being Human, who connect with the charismatic cast, the dramatic story arcs, and the nifty special effects (George's transformation into wolfdom is always a winner). The season 1 collection features plenty of extras, from deleted scenes to cast interviews and more. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: 2-DVD Set, Alternative Footage, Deleted Scenes, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Russell Tovey plays the lovable George, battling with his double identity as a mild-mannered and geeky hospital porter who for one night a month is transformed into a flesh-hungry, predatory werewolf. Aidan Turner plays the good-looking and laid-back Mitchell who, in contrast to George, has the gift of the gab and an easy confidence with the ladies. But he is also a blood-sucking vampire struggling with going cold-turkey from the blood he craves. Completing the flat-share trio is Annie, played by Lenora Crichlow, a talkative ghost lacking in self-confidence and desperate for company. Annie is still pining after her fiancé, whom she was due to marry before the fatal accident that left her with her ghostly affliction - and who happens to be the landlord of their flat. The series follows the trio as they do their best to live their lives as normally as possible despite their strange and dark secrets. But with unwelcome intruders into their world, rumblings about an impending revolution from the vampire underworld and constant threats of exposure - on top of the usual issues faced by young people surrounding love, work and mates - the only thing they may be able to rely on in their heightened world, is each other. ...Being Human - Series One - 2-DVD Set ( Being Human - Series 1 )

2.0 out of 5 stars Being Human: The INCOMPLETE Series 13 May 2009
Format:DVD
This is a wonderful series, one of the best new shows, nay best shows period, that the BBC have ever aired.

This is a terrible DVD "complete" set, one of the very worst lack of efforts they've ever done. The BBC did an astounding job of producing extra material for this show for their website (short features filmed specially for the site showing some of the history of the leads prior to the show, actors filming behind the scenes diaries, etc) and for BBC 3 (the excellent Unearthed documentary and the pilot episode that started the whole thing). And NONE of it is on the "complete" DVD. On top of that, much of the distinctive music from the show which helped set the atmosphere has been replaced with bland stock stuff - come on BBC, nowadays when you strike a deal with a musician or their label to use their music in your TV show, you make sure that deal has the DVD release written in too.

I'm terribly disappointed. I'd have been better off taping the episodes and downloading the features from the website than buying this, because then I'd have a better package than this, and for less money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Show. Shockingly poor DVD. 22 April 2009
Format:DVD
I'm already a big fan of the show, but this is a review of the DVD, which is not only poor in terms of its extras, but has also significantly affected the quality of the show...

The soundtrack was incredibly important to my first experience of the show, and the majority of it has been changed or replaced by original score.

I planned to show the DVD to friends but will now suggest they use other means to watch so they can see it with the original songs.

When a DVD's faults actually reduce the emotional impact of the show.. 2 stars is generous...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! 25 May 2009
Format:DVD
Firstly, let me thank Amazon, and it's reviewing system for attracting me to this series, one I totally missed when it was initally show. I bought this on the views of people already familiar with it and I too have absolutely loved it!

Secondly, there is little to add to everyone elses' comments; an innovative and original idea (how refreshing is that???), a crisp, lively and lean script and probably most importantly, an astounding cast. Every single actor in this shines so much, it's difficult to pick a star, but if I was pushed, I would say Russelll Tovey as George gives an astonsihing performance.

Thirdly, and somewhat depressingly, the thoughts of others on this product are true; another cheap effort by the Beeb. The pilot episode is missing (presumably as it had two different lead actors - it's ok Auntie Beeb, we could handle that!) and a 60 min documentary that was shown on BBC3 is missing. But more depressingly, one just knows the next series will be much more popular as it will have more money behind it and the first series will be re-released, probably with the second with more extras, thus milking the bank accounts of fans. Why do I predict this? Seems the modus operandi for the Beeb.

So, despite the shoddy activities of the Beeb's dvd issuing system, the programme is outstanding, a real gem. Cannot wait for series 2...
