1.0 out of 5 stars FALSE DESCRIPTION 25 Sep 2013

These speakers are fantastic - I already have one pair and I think they're great. However, what is described above as a 'pair' is in fact just one single speaker. BEWARE - FALSE DESCRIPTION!

5.0 out of 5 stars B2031a 1 May 2010
These are studio monitors so, as the above review says, they are going to sound pretty lame if you're trying to play to a crowd of thousands in a sweaty, packed warehouse. However, for studio recording (or i guess sat in your front room, bedroom) they are simply superb. Very flat response across the board no matter what the volume, ideal for studio work and if you are using it for TV, hifi etc at home, you will probably need to buy a bigger TV and stereo to do these bad boys justice.

Current equipment:
Radium and Oxygen 61 controller keyboards
JV1080
MC303
MD4S
UB802
MPC1000
Logic Studio and, of course, 2x B2031A's

5.0 out of 5 stars Behringer TRUTH B2031A review 5 Sep 2009
For the money, thes are truely great speakers.
Just lifting the box they come in takes two men!!! Their performance is wonderful if used in a "bedroom studio" for want of a better phrase. They won't fill the largest of rooms, with the greatest bass, but in the right setting they are clear, articulate, fast and have great weight to the sound. I love them.

In my hi-fi I have B&W Nautilus 804 speakers, so I know what to judge them by. The B&W's are much better, but using them as a reference for the TRUTHs I can hear their qualities.

Great buy.....280 is a bargain compaired to some of the others out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good buy 1 Jan 2013

I'm very happy with these speakers. They are sturdy, well constructed and sound great. I do not use them on a regular basis so cannot comment on the lifespan of the product, but so far I've had no problems. The only reason they lose one star (and this may be a bit harsh because it is common to a lot of speakers) is the lack of protection for the cones. The speakers for my cheap Hitachi stereo have an easily removable front panel covering the cones, and something like this would've been ideal because they do look rather vulnerable. But even so, I would still recommend these.

These monitors are great for mixing from pro tools. I use them every day, the frequency response is flat and precise. for small studios they are perfect. not as expensive as some other brands but they really deliver, and if you like to mix loud these go to 11. Rock!

4.0 out of 5 stars Adequate for near field monitoring IF you're on a budget. 3 May 2010

These speakers can do an adequate job - if you're NOT a professional audio engineer. I'm a freelance videographer and do a lot of concert videography. These monitors are adequate enough that I can assess my various recordings from the show (from the soundboard and from several microphones I place in the room) and make a competent final mix. I think, if you were doing more serious mixing -and were doing it FULL TIME as a professional audio tech- then you should really consider going for something 3-4 times the price. It will be worth it for you. Otherwise, these are great for my purpose, and I also love them for watching movies. Having watched movies before on one of those standard 5.1 surround sound systems you can get from bestbuy or walmart for under $100, I actually think movies sound even better on a pair of stereo speakers like these. FINAL VERDICT: Behringer makes budget audio equipment. The quality VERY rarely meets the standards of professional equipment, but the products are -for the most part- functional and well built. If you're on a budget, this is the way to go. Otherwise, move on. Most professionals (especially if your sole function is audio work) should look for something with a higher price tag and better industry reviews. Sound quality is "OK" for my purposes, and I'm happy with the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reference Monitors at a Good Price. A bit smelly. 25 Dec 2009
By A. Kay - Published on Amazon.com

I bought these to use a piano monitors for a compact space. The sound reproduction is quite good, and it is really quite nifty that they come with a hand-signed frequency response diagram for each speaker to show that the response for the specific speaker you bought is flat across the supported spectrum.

Sound quality: I played various types of music through these, and also used them as monitors for a Yamaha Electric Piano. The lowest end of the bass seems a bit weak, but I'm used to a 3 cubic foot subwoofer, so I'm probably biased. I had no complaints about the volume levels. These speakers do not give any impression of being underpowered for filling an office-sized room. I was slightly disappointed in the output when used with the piano (which was the primary reason for purchase). They sound good, but I believe the bottom end was lacking enough to make it sound less like a real piano that I'd like. Word of warning for those using these with a computer: the inputs are all "line in" impedance matched. Hooking them to a headphone jack noticeably degrades the quality. Turning the input trims all the way down seems to help.

Inputs: 1/4" and XLR. Neither of these are impedance matched for headphone jacks, which means that your computer needs to have a true "line out". They work great with my Mac Pro, but my two MacBook Pro's only have headphone out, and this ends up causing some noticeable distortion.

Adjustments: Each speaker has it's own amplifier (and power cord). The amplifier has some switch-based adjustments to help with the sound of the speakers in various placements (from free-standing to in a corner). The input trims are useful if you are coming from a source that isn't impedance matched, or has a variable amount of signal-to-noise based on output (e.g., our electric piano puts out a better signal at higher volumes, but then is too loud without this trim turned down).

Manufacturing/Build: The first thing you'll notice: these suckers are _heavy_. This is a good sign, in that a critical part of good sound in a speaker is the neutrality of the cabinet. A lightweight cabinet almost always means a reduction in sound quality. These are designed in Germany, but built in China. I was kinda hoping this wasn't the case, but it is. I was hoping any of the materials would pass European indoor air quality standards, but I seriously doubt it. They smell very strongly of glue when you first get them. I ran a 40Hz waveform at high volume through them for several weeks in order to help get the smell out. They are much better now, but the gasses they were putting off made my respiratory system feel a bit bad (my throat got really scratchy, etc), and I felt a bit dizzy from them at first. I would _not_ recommend these to people who have environmental injuries (as my partner does).

Overall, these are good powered speakers at a great price. If you don't have a true "line out" on whatever source you use to drive them, you might be disappointed.

I bought these as primary speakers for my home studio. I play keyboards, guitars, and vocals through these. Very practical speaker with a a very ballsy punch. I couldn't ask for better studio reference speaker. Very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the price and adjustability for your set-up, it doesn't get any better. 8 April 2011
By Dj Windz One - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased these with the assumption that I was not going to get the quality sound I wanted as opposed to KRK monitors (WAAAY overpriced) for my small studio. Boy was I wrong! The sound quality is better than expected to say the least. They're HEAVY, thus you won't be too worried about knocking them over (like the smaller KRK's or M-Audio Studiophiles I've seen). Took these over to a friends house for mixdown of video's he's been working on, and adjusted the settings for his video editing hardware and room dynamics. He then changed his mind after about some 5 hours of video editing. Not the best, but I'll be putting my money into what I can use rather than a name (KRK, JBL, Tannoy, Genlec are just TOO much. . .even for just one monitor). And it'se never about what you got, it's what you do with it.

There are going to be reviews bashing them, but when I have audio engineers telling me "good choice, cuz the KRK's are sometimes WAAY too bassy", I feel I've done my job and research into finding what I can afford.

Just a quick note. . .do give these "burn in" time. meaning give them some time to run before going all out on those mixes. Similar to tube preamps for guitar heads/cabs. . .burn em in slowly so you can get the full effect later. I haven't had these long enough, but I can say they are the best part of my studio.
