This book touches on every aspect of a typical Jamaican rural lifestyle, Lee touches on religion, entertainment (before television), his school experiences and there are also sections dedicated to his parents. The photographs by Owen Minott are spectacular, and lets not forget the cassette with 22 poems, will keep you in stitches!!!!! I highly recomend both the book and the cassette!

"From Behind the Counter" immerses one in life in rural Jamaica from the perspective of the son of a Jamaican mother and a Chinese shopkeeper father. We are treated to the wisdom of the mother and old granny- the frustrations of having to wrap flour while the other children are playing, the church. The other part of the colection features Lee's matter-of-fact spirituality. Overall very impressive and enhanced by Minott's photographs which capture the period exactly

Lovely collection 7 Dec 2008

This is a lovely collections of poems covering a wide range of topics near and dear to the author's heart. Childhood memories of his beloved Jamaica, family, and spirituality. I found them delightful to read. They resonate with images of Jamaica past and present as well as with an acute understanding of the human condition.
