Book Description

A mystical tale from the multi-award-winning author of The Switchers Trilogy and The New Policeman

Product Description

There is a dire warning never to peep out at them. There are stories of people who succumbed to their voices and walked out into the night, never to be seen again. But Rilka, frustrated by the culture of her people, is determined to catch a Beguiler and solve the mystery of their existence and so she embarks on an adventure that will change her life, and the lives of those around her, for ever.

This novel confirms Kate Thompson's position as a writer of rare imagination and power.

From the Back Cover

Every night they come drifting through the sky above the village streets, issuing their mournful cries and terrorising the population. It isn't safe to go out after dark.

Everyone is aware of the power of the beguilers but no one knows what they are. No one has ever caught one. But every generation produces a beguiler-hunter: a tragic soul considered by the rest of the villagers to be insane.

Rilka isn't mad. But the desire to catch a beguiler is about to change her life and the lives of those around her, for ever.

WINNER OF THE BISTRO BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD

About the Author

Kate Thompson is one of the most exciting authors writing for young people today for she is a born storyteller, highly original and thought provoking in her ideas. She has travelled widely in the USA and India and studied law in London. After living in County Clare, she moved to Kinvara in County Galway and there, three years ago, she discovered her passion for playing the fiddle. She is now an accomplished player and also has a great interest in restoring instruments.

Kate is a multi-award winning author and the only author to win the Children's Books Ireland Bisto Book of the Year award four times.
