Book Description

18+ Adult Content

Jess knew her life would never move forward if she remained a part of Gregory’s pack. Some Alphas just don’t know how to take care of their wolves. She had managed Gregory’s bar for years but she knew he would never sell it to her.

After one giant mistake, he went from bad to worse. As a psychic, she knew it was a downward spiral.

Taking her future in her own hands, she contacts the Alpha in Edenton. He is happy to sell the empty bar no one has the time, nor desire to renovate, much less run.

Their attraction is unexpected and the last thing either want, but they find the only thing they need in each other.

There is just one problem. Slater’s second in command is plotting against him. Liam will use anything to take over as Alpha.

Plenty of werewolves, an old vampire flame, plus a paranoid second, and don’t forget the psychic with a whole lot of attitude.

About the Author

Brandy L Rivers is the author of the Others of Edenton Series. She wrote the series slightly out of order because In Too Deep was just the first one to come to her. This is the prequel. In Too Deep was the first book, but it takes place two years later. Shadows of the past will hopefully be out late November. It will cover Hayden and Amethyst. As an avid reader, Brandy has always loved writing. She became serious about it as a stay-at-home-mother. She has a file full of manuscripts she plans to edit and put out there eventually. She lives in Western Washington with her husband and three kids, where she is already working on the future stories in the series. New Beginnings is another excellent read in the `Others of Edenton' series, this time it's a prequel and we get to know some of the characters we were introduced to in `In too Deep' a little bit better - namely our wolf pack Alpha Slater & Fallons BFF and psychic friend Jess. We already know from `In too Deep' that Slater & Jess are mated & devoted to each other and this is their story....

Jess is a character more than capable of holding the lead reins and you can totally see how Fallon & her are friends because she's fierce, she's independent, she's feisty, she's not afraid to voice her opinion and doesn't take any crap from anyone regardless of the outcome. I like this in a character and although she is similar in a few ways to Fallon, there is a marked difference too. Slater is HOT, I like my wolves dominant & sexy without the bossy and Slater fits the bill perfectly, even giving us a peek at his vulnerable side so, in fact he is ideal for Jess - if they could get past their issues. I loved their chemistry, I loved the little spats they had, I loved the sexy times, I loved it all, especially the fact that even though they `mated', it wasn't going to come easy to the pair of them and I have a feeling they will always clash.... But in a good way.

The storyline was great, from the way Jess left her old home right up until the ending - I was hooked and I really enjoyed the focus being on the wolf pack, giving us an insight into the inner workings & hierarchy. I though the danger/ threat of the book was well done & was really fitting with the overall feel of the book especially as it was coming from within and not an outside source which also gave it a creepier feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read! Love this series :-) 13 Sept. 2013

I was so excited when i brought this book off Amazon, after reading 'In Too Deep' I knew it was going to be amazing! And how right was I?!? *feeling smug* :-) i was totally drawn into Edenton and everybody that lived there, except Dacia (AGAIN) ha i just dont like that woman.

Jess is hilarious, so sure of herself in a good way, she knows what she wants and she gets it :-) I really liked Jess and was glad she didnt go all submissive to Slater!!
Slater, the alpha male (wit woooooo), oh where to begin, he knew what he wanted and was so protective. Yeah Slater was hot but i still prefer 'my' Brody hehe!! And I was so pleased to see he featured alot in this book.

I loved the story, it was fast paced, with action, romance and of course the steamy scenes ;-) and we really got to know the characters that popped up in 'In Too Deep'. I will be looking out for future books by Brandy L Rivers and snapping them up :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to the series 9 Jun. 2015

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jess is the manager of the bar owned by her Alpha, Gregory who is not very endearing. After a drunken night of passion with him, she decides to run as he is the last person she wishes to be entangled with. She is psychic and usually has a good indication of what the future might hold.

She ends up in another pack where the Alpha, Slater has lost his mate and doesn't date humans or packmates. When he agrees to Jess buying his bar and joining his pack, little does he know that his well organised life is about to change. Jess makes it quite clear that she is not interested in a relationship whereas Slater insists that he is not looking to get involved or mate with anyone. It doesn't take long for them to realise that keeping away from each other is not as easy as it might seem and as hard as Slater tries, Jess stands her ground and concentrates on building up her business.

Slater is very patient and understanding whereas Jess is a strong character who doesn't bend easily, not even to the Alpha. It's interesting to see other paranormal characters besides werewolves in what promises to be an interesting series. This prequel is fast paced and has the elements of danger, betrayal, love, passion and loyalty.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Start to a Series! 2 Dec. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the prequel novel to the Others of Edenton series. I really enjoyed it!

Jess is a character I didn't like. She is a werewolf, who also happens to be a psychic. I found her a bit hypocritical at times. She is determined, feisty and a force to be reckoned with, especially since she can see flashes of the future. However, she also has a tendency to meddle in the lives of her friends quite a bit, but doesn't like it when others to do the same to her.

I really liked Slater, the Alpha of the wolf pack. He is a tough but fair leader, who has a sense of honour and is respected by his pack. When Jess comes to Edenton, he doesn't know what to make of the instant attraction he feels for her.

I have a huge passion for erotic paranormal romances, so I was looking forward to reading this one, as the blurb intrigued me. I started to read this book and finished it in one sitting, because I couldn't put it down! However, even though I really enjoyed the story, I found the dialogue to be a bit melodramatic and too "teenage angst-y" for grown adult characters. Jess treats most of the pack, apart from Brody, with disdain, as if they are not worth her time. What Slater sees in her is a mystery to me, as she treats him worse than the others at times. Granted, she doesn't want to be attracted to her Alpha (and I get that), but as she can see them together in the future, why she treats him the way she does confuses me. She also tends to whine when things aren't going the way she wants them to. But, as this is the prequel to the main series, the story introduces the reader to most of the main characters who will feature more in the main story arc; they are all fascinating characters.
