Oh, my! Now, this book is right up my street! It promises an exciting archaeological thriller spanning more than 2000 years and beginning with the fall of Jerusalem, it delivers exactly that! I was hooked from the beginning and read this easily in two days. I am quite a choosy reader and demand well written books, with great plots and believable characters. Bravo to the author. I enjoyed all the information provided along the way of the adventure, reminded me of all the trivial knowledge I picked up from Dan Brown novels. The various locations (what a place the catacombs are for an adventure) and the touches of humor were a major plus for me. I have already purchased more books from this talented author. Looking forward to more!

'Beginnings' by Ben Hammott is a terrific, engrossing novel that is epic in scope and studied in its attention to detail. Stretching across thousands of years, Hammott never loses his eye for detail and for little touches that, even amidst epoch-defining events, gives them a human grounding and emotional core.

Beginning with the construction of 'The Temple of Solomon' in Jerusalem, Hammott sweeps through history, through myth, fantasy and historical realities to the Roslyn Chapel catacombs and on to Rennes-le-Château, with characters odious and heroic mingling along the way.

Despite the heavy subject matter, Hammott injects a sense of fun into the novel - it is a compelling read, and a must-have, naturally, for anyone interested in the lost tomb of the Knights Templar.

What a great adventure story! This book had everything I love in a good read, danger, treasure, religion, different locations and humour. Spanning over two thousand years it really kept me enthralled and I'm now off to start the next one !!!

Like the idea. Fills out the back story and gives us a valuable insight into the Travis psyche.

Enjoyed the storyline however this was marred by the very disappointing proof reading. Throughout the book there were a number of words that just didn't make sense and in places sentences had been muddled up. Very frustrating having to read something a number of times before it makes sense, especially when you have paid for the priveledge.
