...and then buy Fillmore East. Forget about Jessica and all that middle of the road country stuff that Dickie Betts had the band doing after Duane Allman and Berry Oakley died. This is a very different band, playing some of the most soulful, grinding, uplifting, jazzy, latin-tinged, funky blues you will ever hear. Beginnings is a fine introduction to their attitude and their songs, but the Allmans were one of those rare acts who really must be heard live to appreciate where they were coming from. They burnt fast and bright, produced two great studio albums and one earth-shattering live album, then exploded in a tragic mess of bike crashes and drug addiction. In a way, the perfect band, the perfect rock n roll story.
