I would highly recommend this book to any bass player. Scales are a great way to improve your playing and ability to get across the fretboard. This book is particularly good because it discusses scale theory. Rather than blindly learning scales you can see how each group of scales follows set patterns, this helps improvisation skills and saves learning all the different scales.
If you only get one scale book, get this one, if you want two, get the Bass Scales Manual by Harvey Vinsen, these two book go really well together.

This is a very useful accompaniment to your learning library and very good for practicing scales for warming-up and getting your fingers and hands in shape.
The book sits very easily on a music stand due to its shape - you can sit it in the middle of an open page on a music sheet - and it fits nicely inside my gig bag.
The title of the book is "Beginning Bass Scales" - not Beginning Bass - i.e. it is a book for anyone beginning to learn Bass "Scales" not necessarily a book for anyone beginning to learn Bass, having said that I would say I was an advanced beginner when I bought the book and have found it very useful to learn about scales and scale structure that wasn't in the lessons I was having at the time.
Don't be put off this book if you are an absolute beginner, as you will need to learn scales at some stage and this book will fit the job nicely.

I purchased this book a while ago and have mixed thoughts.
The title may be a bit confusing in that it is not a begginers book, it is designed for someone already playing Bass but moving to level 2/3 and already learning different scales. Hope that makes sense?
Anyway, a very useful reference book for scales for those progressing in Bass playing but don't buy if you are a complete beginner, learn the basic skills first then buy this book.

Hmmm....Your better of spending a little more it your just getting started and buying Teach Yourself Bass Guitar [With DVD] (Step One Teach Yourself).

Absolute beginners?
not as straightforward or as easy as one is lead to believe, certainly not as uncomplicated as I had hoped for and not for absolute beginners anyway
