5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic introduction to Python!, 21 Jun 2009

This is a great introduction to Python. People who can already program will find the book moves quickly enough, but beginners will by no means be lost.
The book covers everything Python - including an introduction to some more advanced concepts like Django.
At the end of the book, there are several fantastic projects which tech you to make something very cool - like a forum, a chat client (like MSN) and a file sharing server like Bit-torrent.

A great book that I highly recommend!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written and a great companion, 8 May 2009
By NefariousTim (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I bought this book having completed Dive Into Python by Mark Pilgrim (also on Apress).

The two books complement each other perfectly; where Mark Pilgrim's book throws you straight into development, Magnus' book really takes the time to explain the inner workings of Python -- in fact, I'm currently using it as my reference book of choice.

The book also includes some nice chapters on best practices in Python and has certainly helped me understand the concept of "pythonic" coding.

This book is a good starting point for anyone wanting to learn Python -- and, along with Dive Into Python, will give you a firm grounding in the language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Python For Beginners, 10 Aug 2009
This book was and is perfect. Having come from a Delphi background I knew very little about Python. I had seen a few online tutorials but could get to grips with them. One in particular was the lambda function and how to use it, let alone list expressions.

However, I can use both and have a firmer grasp of the python fundamentals. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is beginning Python.
