Tara Lee, creator of the best selling Bump, Birth and Beyond series brings you a new yoga flow DVD. Based on the 'earth' element, this yoga DVD is designed to build the foundations of a yoga practice suitable for all levels. The DVD is divided into three 20-minute sequences which can be played in succession for a complete yoga practice, or as individual sessions for those short of time. The practices will build a strong foundation of stability in the body, mind and spirit. Particularly useful for releasing symptoms of modern living such as headaches, lack of concentration, insomnia and stress, these practices will leave you feeling grounded and calm. Bonus features: - 10-minute balancing series - 10-minute core workout - 10-minute breathing exercise - 5-minute relaxation

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant introduction to yoga 23 May 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I first saw extracts from this DVD on the Fitness TV channel - they were showing one of the 3 main practices as a programme. I watched it and thought to myself that it looked really good. I've been looking for something to add to my fitness routine that was about strength, and as I already do pilates I went for yoga.

It's a really great DVD - Tara Lee is brilliant throughout, as the voice over and as the demonstrator of the poses/sequences.

There are, as other reviews have said, 3 main practice sequences which are roughly 20 minutes long and you can work through individually, or play the entire sequence for a full-on 60 minute work out. First time I tried it I did the first section, felt really good and so went back and did the other 2 sections later in the day.

I haven't yet tried the bonus feature sequences, but if they're anywhere near as good as the main ones, then I will be very happy indeed.

All in all, a great buy. I am a complete yoga beginner, although I have been doing pilates for a while (although they're not the same, I have found there are some elements that are similar - focus on breath, focus on core muscles, etc.) I can see myself progressing well with this DVD and even when I am more experienced in yoga practice I will keep coming back to this DVD. I would love to attend one of Tara's classes!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for stiff bodies like mine 1 Sep 2012

I'm as stiff as a board and wouldn't ever go to a yoga class, but even I managed to do the first of the three 20min sessions of this dvd. It's simple but effective for getting you started, and you get better the more you practice. I haven't done the second session yet, but I suspect that after doing the first one for a few days, I may be able to. Hah, I shall be a svelt and supple goddess yet (...in my dreams anyway)!

3.0 out of 5 stars Instructions not good enough for beginners 3 April 2013
By OHNH3

There are many things that are good about this DVD that are mentioned in the other reviews. My main issue with it is that it is marketed as beginners Yoga but I don't really think it has been produced with beginners in mind. I have been to 5 or 6 Yoga classes over that last couple of years, so I have a rough idea of what I am doing but I am not confident on the details of the poses. Although the sequences included are at a level that is suitable for someone who is fairly new to Yoga, there are many places where the instructions are woefully inadequate.

When Tara is describing simple poses she gets it just right but when she starts linking more complex poses together she reverts to little more than naming the poses and doesn't give enough information on position (heels on floor? knees bent or straight? head up, down or looking forward?) or what the key aspects of a pose are for people who may not be flexible enough yet to do "forward bends" and "downward dogs" competently. This means that I have to keep stopping and looking at the TV and it also worries me that I might be stretching in a way that could cause injury and this puts me off from using the DVD. I am also not convinced that the third practice is really stand alone and I would probably precede this with one of the other 2 practices.

This is a nice selection of simple routines that would be a good supplement to a regular Yoga class but is not suitable for a complete beginner. I also think the music will get boring after a while.
