Beginner's Spanish Dictionary is a really useful, handy dictionary, especially for beginners, and kids. It includes many very practical, everyday words and phrases, and I found that it was easy to use and read, because of it's cartoons and also because of the way it had been written. I recommend it whether you are just beginning, or even if you have a knowledge of some Spanish already. It's also very good for use as a teaching tool/supplement.

Good For Nouns 27 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
This dictionary covers two areas for me, the first being Nouns. On this alone i could give it 5 stars for it has most of the words you would need as a beginner and many more, with attractive colourful cartoons to appeal to the youngest of readers. As an adult i don't find them distracting, they are extremely useful at points. The book is arranged into themes, the house, the family, pets, sports, etc; so finding something you need isn't difficult. They are also listed A-Z at the back in a smaller font like the usual dictionary.

The area where this falls down in though is with the verbs, they are spread throughout the book and hard to track down when you need them. Conjugating them is complex and if you're learning spanish on your own (like i am) you need to really study grammar and verbs without this book. Buy this for the nouns alone, but if you want to learn spanish properly you will need more books to cover the areas where this fails.

Another great book from Usborne! 4 Jan 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is great! The funny illustrations, basic grammar and pronunciation explanations and the word choices make it a fabulous learning tool for people of all ages! The French version of this book helped to instill in me a great interest in foreign languages, and I must say this version is no different! I am in Spanish classes in high school, and this book really helps me with my vocabulary and my understanding of the language. Foreign language can be fun with the Usborne Language Books! Adios, and enjoy it!

So little for so much 17 Nov 2001
By "jackiesdog" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
High quality paper and colorful drawings distract from the fact that this overpriced book is little more than a list of a mere 2000 words and phrases. They're presented by subject matter but seldom in the context of a sentence. Perhaps more valuable than the "dictionary" itself are the grammar hints at the end of book. Catering to people whose favorite subject in school may not be (have been) grammar in any language, the author's explanations are simple and clear. She says, " . . . you need to learn a little about grammar, that is, how you put words together and make sentences." Anyone who is serious about learning Spanish would better spend their dollars on real books.
