The cover of this book states the goal is "reading and writing" Russian script. My understanding of this is that it will teach you handwritten Russian. While there are examples of both typewritten and cursive letters, which will help reading, at no point does the book guide you through the process of writing a letter. For example, with the English letter B, we are taught to draw the vertical first, from top to bottom, then the "loops", again starting at the top. There is no such guidance in this book. I am sure the shape and sound of the letters are all explained adequately, but this information is available in any adequate Russian language book. The reason I bought this book, and the function implied by its title, is that it teaches Russian handwriting - it doesn't. I'd return it but I can't be bothered.

The book was just like I expected and very useful both to start learning and to review Russian script.

I have no previous knowledge of Russian and was thinking of enrolling a course, merely for the sake of it. Still, I wanted to have some hint as to whether I would manage to get to grips with it or would it all be a waste of time + money. I bought this book under such intent and found it extremely user-friendly, divided in units that are both challenging and achievable, and very encoraging. I will definitely pursue learning Russian, but if anything this book made me doubt the urgence of moving into a class with a timetable I do not run. Maybe I'll stick to learn Russian with its help for the time being. Highly recommended. Congratulations to the people involved and my warm thank you. Good Health to you all.

Beginner's Russian Script (TY Beginner's Scripts)
A more unfriendly book I had never seen yet. The title in Cyrillic script. Not translated, not explained. That script is supposed to be taught inside the book, so, is the `teacher' Trying to make the poor learner feel cowed? Is it an `inside joke'? At your expense, of course. I assume it means Post, the picture could be a Post box, I find it somewhere inside as post office. Big joke. My learning attitude is already in revolt by the unfriendliness of that. Books are my friends, my best friends sometimes. Not this one. You open the book. Nevertheless. And you are presented with the most gimmicky arrangement of squares, and boxes, and lines, even the page numbers are difficult to find. You must turn the book to read what's in the vertical oblong box. Game: find the page number!
Then the first exercise contains a little joke. It is an exercise on some three- letter words presented in the chapter and made up of the first characters learned: well, the three letter words get jocularly mixed up with Mak(sic) and Tom, who are later revealed to be a Mac and a Tom, Scotsmen. Indeed! Now it becomes Mac but in the exercise it is Mak. Are we supposed to read Mac looking at Mak? I would have thought that in learning a new script every detail counts, especially if it is a letter! And the `did you spot' explanation is still more nonsensical. Mac becomes Mak again, butit is the Scotsman's name which is Mac. It says there. Confusing? It is. It must be seen (in the book) to be believed! An this is only as far as page ... let me find it, oh yes, page 8. And then some teachers say it's the kids that are dumb! Not acceptable.
Look inside really needed save money.
