Fred Reinfeld`s book takes you through all the phases of the game, and helps you get to a good level of play. He shows you how to build attacks and win material. I`ve read quite a number of books on chess, but this was my first one, and the most important one. You won`t regret reading this book, as it won`t fail to improve a beginners play. Excellent.

Bewarte the notation, otherwise cool 24 Aug 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Note that this book was originally written in the 1960s and therefore uses the old-style (non-algebraic) notation. Otherwise this is a fine beginner's book with lots of good examples and few typos.

great introduction to beginning chess. Some elements of the book are very basic, but easy to understand and is a help in building a foundation for more skilled play.
