The three authors have been giving courses on R for several years and the book is consequently well paced and covers the topics you need to know in a sensible order. There are plenty of exercises and you can download the datasets from the authors' website. A big advantage that this book enjoys over many other introductions to R is that it only teaches the R programming language without also trying to teach introductory statistics as well. This focus allows it to do this one thing well rather than doing both tasks poorly as so many other books do.
The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that there seems to have been very little proofreading done at all. There are several typos and many typographical flaws that just take the shine off an otherwise excellent book.

I would agree with the reviewer that said that concepts were missing. Not a bad book for the classroom but for self-study somewhat tough to understand. If the authors are reading and doing a second edition then this review I would advise them to start with the concepts and then give concrete examples of them in action.

I would say this is an overpriced book especially given that an introduction can be found on the r website for free. The book also wasn't clear in many places, especially towards the end when the author was building on concepts. Maybe this would not be a problem in a classroom setting where questions could be asked in order to clarify certain points. also i found the examples irrelevant and uninteresting (though of course this may not be the case for someone else). All in all i would not recommend this book as it seems to me to be a re-writing of the author's lecture notes...
