About the Actor
Ron has always loved dogs, since he was a kid. He got serious about training Gun Dogs over 30 years ago when he learned under the late Jack Curtis. Jack was one of the greatest Gun trainers ever to live. He trained the Queens dogs at Sandringham House (The Queen s country retreat in the UK). Ron met Jack when he was nearing 30, when he went to do some beating(or driving) on a local shoot. Jack took a liking to Ron allowing him to help out with the dogs for the entire shooting season. That was the beginning of a great friendship, where Jack taught Ron just about everything a man needs to know about Gun Dogs and the training of Gun Dogs. Ron has since taught 100's of gundog owners how to train their own dog to expert status. In releasing this DVD he has gone one step further in making his training techniques avaliable to 1000's of gundog lovers throughout the world who can not afford his personal training.

Not what it says,

This isn't really a training dvd, more a poorly made demonstration. I'm sure the guy knows what he's doing and his methods are similar to those written by Joe Irving in his very good book 'Training Spaniels', but he can't communicate beyond a few grunts.The training doesn't stack up either. For example early in the dvd "The recall" involves getting your dog to sit while you walk away from it and then call it in. Getting a dog to sit like that is more difficult than a simple come here!! Regular commentary suggests you dog should be able to do x y & z now, but you've not be shown how to do it. If you want to watch a well trained dog demonstrating what a gun dog can do, on a badly made video, then this is worthwhile. I'd imagine that anyone who wants to train a gundog has been on a shoot and witnessed working dogs first hand. This is no comparison... Sorry this is not a training dvd! Go for the Joe Irving book every time.

I got this for a Xmas present, and really enjoyed it, I have a spaniel who's 6 months old, the DVD is simple to understand and at least I know what I should be trying to do nowI read the other review and do agree a little that it won't be the only information you will need if you want to have a top class gun dog, and the filming is not Hollywood class , but personally I find the DVD training really helpful especially in conjunction with The book Gundog training made easy which I also own I think 4 stars is fair, really helpful
