Good for Beginners 24 Jun 2004
Format:Paperback
As a first step I borrowed this Book from my Local library. Since I found this extremely good, I ordered a copy and am Using the same.

The book takes you from basic like wishing someone to chatting to someone on what you do during your free time.

I have not even looked at any other Geman courses as I have been quite satisfied with it. That is the reason I purchased it even though I had access to it in the Local Council Library.

Areas of Improvement would be More on Pronounciation.

Although the description suggests it is a complete course, these tapes are actually support for the book and are quite useless without it. The tape suggests it can be used in the car, but all the pauses are only long enough to press a pause button - I personally have never come across a pause button on a car cassette player, though some have a mute function - so it involves a lot of ejecting/rewinding and associated lack of attention to the road ahead. Not that you would try for very long since it gets too complicated too quickly without the book to back it up. If you are already learning German and can speak very quickly, this might help. Otherwise: forget it.

Long distance love made easy 28 April 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Recently my girlfriend moved back to germany and asked my to come visit her and meet her family. I was so nervous because her family did not speak any english. I ordered the book and tapes and within a month I was in Germany impressing her family with my new fluency. No matter what your reason for learning German I think this is a great book.
