5.0 out of 5 stars Beginner's Dari 16 Nov 2008
Format:Paperback
This a great book to start learning Dari. It's easy to use and follows a very logical format starting with learning the alphabet through to vocabulary and grammar. It also has a CD with the words from each lesson, and uses good transliteration which is perfect for working on pronunciation. Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Half a loaf is better than no bread 18 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
This book needs to be seriously reviewed. The structure is accetable. But there are typing errors (in the Dari, transliteration), the transliteration (romanisation) is inconsistent, the author is confused and confuses the reader in the use of informal and formal "you" (shoma v/s du). There are cases where the English translation does not correspond to the Dari text, etc...
Basically, it seems the book was published before it was finished.

There are now a couple of recently published book in the market which might be better and which I would try if I was to return to Afghanistan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good way to start learning Dari / Farsi 15 Nov 2010
By MAH
Format:Paperback
I bought the 2004 edition, which came out prior to the inclusion of a CD. As a way to start getting into the language and the written script, I found this book particularly useful because it is simple, it gives you the basics from which to develop your own learning and it has the clearest Dari script of any book I have seen so far: thick, clear lines that help you match the written script to the English translation. Apart from the test scripts, all of the sentences and the mini dictionary in the back give the English, the Anglicised Dari and the written Dari script. For its clarity and simplicity as a great way for a beginner to start, it gets top marks.
