Product Description

Product Description

Begin Again is a collection of emotion-filled short stories that served as a springboard for my later novels, including the much talked about A Family Affair, Book One of the Truth in Lies series. Along with my short stories, I’ve also shared how the themes from these offerings led to full-length works.

This collection includes: Beauty, Suffocating in Suburbia, Sam & Jack, The Landlord, Oh Christmas Tree, The Death of Mary Alice Olivetti, and Across the River. I’ve also provided alternate endings for A Family Affair and Pretending Normal.

More About the Author

Mary Campisi writes emotion-packed books about second chances. Whether contemporary romances, women's fiction, or Regency historicals, her books all center on belief in the beauty of that second chance.

Mary should have known she'd become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the ending to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes.

When she's not working on her craft or following the lives of five young adult children, Mary's digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab mix, Cooper, or, on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own hero/husband on his Ultra Limited aka Harley.

Mary has published with Kensington, Carina Press, and The Wild Rose Press. She has recently released A Family Affair: Summer, Book 3 in the popular family saga series, Truth In Lies. Mary is currently working on A Family Affair: Fall, Book 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short Story Compilation 21 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wasn't sure whether this book was intended to be read before or after all her other books were read but after having read it I would say I probably did the right thing reading it first with the exception of Family Affair - Truth in Lies which needs to be read first. If you haven't read that then skip chapter 8 until you have read it.

I would say reading this book has helped me to prioritise what I would like to read next of Mary's. It also made me very interested in her betrayed trilogy.

My favourite stories were :
Chapter 3: Sam and Jack - which focuses on an instance attraction which is jeopardized by a well meaning interfering boss/uncle who tries to bring these two people together. Sometimes no matter how well meaning this is, the mind can instantly rebel even if the heart is saying something different when you know you are being set up. Luckily for Sam and Jack this all turns out well.

Chapter 6; The Death of Mary Alice Olivetti - rather a tragic ending of a life of a promising young woman all due to a highly religious strict family with intolerant views on what is right and wrong and also a tragic death in her family leaving her unable to continue her education and fulfil her dreams. How trapped and hopeless she must have felt in that way of life and her sense of duty, it doesn't bear thinking about. I think the rest of us have alot to be thankful for in terms of the opportunities and freedoms that are available to us but are denied to many.

Chapter 7: Across the River - I would term this a fable - a story with a meaning about a squirrel named Samuel who yearned to leave his home and go across the river to what he believed would be a better life.

Didn't understand this book
Just glimpses of her writing, some may love it but I thought it was a waste

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as it could have been 26 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought this was going to be a master class in novel writing from the author but no, the author reminisces too much and there was probably only one or two stories I enjoyed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not much to this book 4 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Most of the short stories were ok but nothing spectacular - i have read better ones in woman's magazines! I also felt that the explanations were "padding" and should have been discarded for more stories.
