Book Description

This is the second book of the Finely Focused Photography Books Series by Al Judge.

Finely Focused Photography Books is a new series of books from Al Judge for people who prefer to study photography one topic at a time.

Each Book of the Series draws upon Al’s longer and more comprehensive books for content. Like all of Al Judge’s books these books contain numerous photos and illustrations to help facilitate clear and concise communication.

Before You Buy a Digital Camera will painlessly provide help and insight into your Digital Cameras choices and even help you to make a better camera purchase.

Digital Cameras don’t have to be intimidating. The underlying principles are surprisingly simple but rarely presented in layman’s terms. Like any other area of specialization, photography has its own language. Fortunately, you only need to understand a few of terms and concepts to get started.

This guide to PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS builds a solid foundation of photographic knowledge with easy-to-follow discussions of everything that you need to know in order to get started with confidence. Every photographic term used in the book is clearly defined and thoroughly explained. All terms are also highlighted by using BOLD CAPS so that you can easily find them again to refresh your memory.

This Photographic Guide will take the mystery out of digital cameras, camera choices, and Photographic Jargon.

This book is filled with charts, illustrations and photos that take the discussion to new levels. You will not only understand the terminology and techniques discussed, but you will have a much better understanding of how your camera works and what is actually happening when you make adjustments. The charts and photos should help you to retain what you learn and put it to good use immediately.

Although this book provides a fast-track approach to achieving photographic competence it does not rely on previous knowledge.

This book will:

  • Save you a great deal of time and effort.

  • Help you take better pictures and know why they are better.

  • Present the details and language of digital photography without intimidation or confusing terminology – all terms are clearly defined and explained.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for DLSR newbies 29 Oct. 2014
    By DAVID D. - Published on Amazon.com
    Format:Kindle Edition
A must read for newbies before they purchase their first DLSR. Concise and fact-filled with no fluff but chock-full of helpful comments from Al Judge's own experience. Although I was fortunate in my first DLSR choice, I wish I had read this book before my first camera body purchase.

Glad I read the next book on lenses in Al's 9-book series before I got too carried away on purchasing lens. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series and then moving on to his "Mastering..." series and new books as he releases them. Great way to get up to speed regardless of your photograph goals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative 28 Jun. 2014

Mr. Judge does an excellent job of highlighting the benefits of a solid Market Driven DSLR Canon and Nikon. He makes some excellent distinctions between , Point and Shoot, Bridge Camera, and DSLR. I now have an idea of what to consider when I am ready to buy. I believe every camera enthusiast , should quickly inform themselves with this book before buying a camera. The book is well written and easy to understand. I am not a photographer , but surely would like to achieve some success. Mr Judge,s books really gives the preparation , for a "Wanting To Be Photographer". I have read three of his books and will proceed to read the rest. Easy reading, very informative, and really helps the decision making .

The book is short and completely understandable. Author does a good job in highlighting what is important; excluding the rest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Making the best choice for yourself 13 May 2013

Had some good info on point and shoot cameras and DSLR cameras. Since Canon and Nikon are the dominate in the camera world out there they were the two that were compared. There was more info on the Canon DSLR cause that was the camera that the author new best. I wish there was more info on the Nikon but with the info you got on the Canon you could do your own research on the Nikon if that is your preference you can find out similar info.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book before going shopping for a new digital camera! 2 May 2013

My girlfriend wants to buy a new camera so I picked up this book to see if it can help us make a better decision. And I can say that it actually did. Now I have much clearer picture of different types of cameras on the market and what is really important to look for in the specifications. It is easy to get very confused with all the technical terms when you are buying a camera, and in just a couple of hours, after reading this book, the search for the most suitable camera can be more enjoyable!

The book is easy to read, concise, to the point and with pictures to describe the points, so it is fully recommendable also to newbies. Thumbs up!
