5.0 out of 5 stars vignettes from a changing britain. 2 Sep 2012
Format:Paperback
I first heard of Ian Jack's collection of essays "Before the oil ran out" when it was published in 1987 but I have only just read it and with posterity being the harshest judge of jurnalism I must conclude that Jack is a very good journalist indeed. For in these short pieces he manages to capture a lot of the country we were becoming under Thtacherism and also something of the world we were leaving behind. So if you want an oblique and prophetic analysis of the late seventies and eighties that is both fluent and stimulating this book is a great place to start.

This book was a bit used, but it was fine for reading, so I truly do not have any problems with it. Thanks!
